Adult Corn not going to bathroom

Hey guys,

My adult corn snake hasn't been going to the bathroom as frequent lately. Two feedings ago, he didn't go to the bathroom for about two weeks, so I put him in a lukewarm bath and he ended up going within a matter of minutes upon being put in the bath.

After that, I fed him two mice (because that's all he'd eat, in the winter he tends to eat smaller amounts of food) and since then he hasn't gone to the bathroom either. I've refrained from feeding him since then because I don't want to keep putting more in his belly when he hasn't gone to the bathroom yet. It's been about three weeks now. He's been active, moving around, drinking, and I've held him hoping that it'd stir around his digestive system a bit, but still nothing.

I'll probably try the warm bath thing again, but I just want to know why this is happening? Is this normal for snakes to not go to the bathroom for a matter of weeks at a time? This is the first time this has ever happened so I'm a little confused/worried.

Any help is appreciated, thanks.

-Mike

Mmmm odd. Mine usually go three to four days after but I'm not a poop seeker either.
What type of heat do you have for him.
And whats his weight or size, maybe one mouse will do. And how long have you had this snake?

Usually he goes after three-four days too. I've had him for probably 9 years or so. I haven't measured him but he's about 5-5.5 ft long if I had to estimate. As far as heating goes, he has a heating pad in the bottom of his aquarium.

I had a female a few years ago the same way. I think some of them react to the weather and light changes and attempt to do what they would naturally. You may want to cut his heat and let him cool down for a month or two.

could it be due to the fact that he only had two, pretty small mice last time I fed him?

He's in some lukewarm water now swimming around, nothing yet though.

I fed him today, only two mice though because I didn't want to over feed him seeing as he still hasn't gone from the last time I fed him a few weeks ago. Maybe feeding him today will force the old food out?

Ya know sometimes snakes can not go for a while and I say that the small mice you are feeding might be why he has not gone. Maybe try feeding a bigger mouse and see if he goes and with winter here the adults kinda are not as active so he could just be slowing down on pooping. I just watch him and see how he is doing sounds like he is healthy and no need for a vet call yet. :)

i feed my adult corn every sunday. this sunday would have been 3 weeks with no poop- she didnt look distressed or anything, but i wasnt going to feed her again until she went. i've been looking every day this week for it- worrying a little!! and FINALLY last night she did it. maybe it is normal with the colder weather.

haha yeah I know what you mean about worrying like crazy. I ended up feeding him two today just because it's been three weeks since the last feeding and he's been active so I didn't want to hold him off food any longer. He ate perfectly fine. He's still moving around now, hopefully he'll go within a few days. If not I'll try the warm water soak again

Try running him through your hands and checking out his butt. if it looks a little plumper than usual..he might be a little stopped up and require a good soak and run through to help get the stuff moving! If he doesnt poo for over 3-4 weeks it might be time for a vet visit. something might have impacted. sometimes dehydration can also cause the poo to become too dry to pass smoothly and needs to be *ahem* helped lol.

He actually went a couple days ago in the middle of the night on his own, thank god. I was going to post in this thread as an update but I didn't wanna bump it for no reason and bug anyone haha. Thanks for the reply though, I'll keep that in mind if it happens again.

lol its funny you should say that i did an older post about corn poo cause mine hadnt gone for what seemed a life time and then he went on my friends t-shirt whilst being handled lol was funny. my corn usually poo's around 5-6 days after a feed.

i wouldnt worry just yet just look for signs of distress, if this happens then i would take him to the vet.

hiya guys i am having this problem at the moment of non pooing, it must have been about three weeks since his last poo in this three weeks i have fed him twice but he has a feed due tomorrow and not sure what to do its never been this long. i might try cutting the heat down a bit like what one of the other posts suggested or feed him anyway hoping that will push the old food out. i have tried a warm soak and he just freaked out at the water, i keep handling him hoping that will cause the bowl movement like last time but no such luck any help will be greatly appreciated.

i hate waiting for mine to poop.. some times he takes a couple weeks too. course i wouldn't dare handle him during that period.. sick of him pooping on me.. there just isn't anything grosser in the whole world.. last time it happened i washed my phone.. just off went the clothes right in the washer.. and i went directly to the shower.

i'm about 95% sure he doesn't like going in the cage.. thanks for the tip i dunno how luke warm water would stimulate defecation. but i might try it

careful with the warm water.. they sure as hell don't like warm water.. though if your ever attacked by a large python or boa.. hot water is a great idea!
