Adult hide dimensions?

It's going to be a long while before Kaa is large enough to need an adult hide, but a friend of mine is going to be building the decor for her new lizard viv soon, and has offered to help me make the hides and decor for Kaa's viv at the same time, and I can't pass up the opportunity! :) Thing is, I have no idea what the proper size hide is for an adult snake. What would you recommend as the appropriate size for an adult snake hide? Lenght, width, height, etc.

Thank you so much!

My adults all have wine cubes for hides, stuffed with paper bags or newspaper. And they all have paper towel tubes, which all but the largest snakes fit in. They like tighter better than roomy, but you can always make a hide more cozy with "stuffing."

Think of a base about salad plate-sized, not dinner plate-sized.

Thanks guys, my plan was to build it to a size assuming he'd reach the upper end of the size range, so that it would fit him however big he gets, if that helps.

Salad plates are the smaller plates. A little bigger than a tea cup plate. Probably around 6" diameter but I don't think there's any uniform standard.

Wow, I would have thought they would need a lot more space than that, shows what I know, lol. Thank you so much. How tall should the hides be?

Maybe 2". They like to feel like they are squeezing into something. My biggest cornsnake fits into a hide which is 8.5 x 5 x 3, but it's tapered in all directions, and those are the biggest measurements. He's a 650 gram snake.

You know what makes a really cool looking hide- a fake turtle shell. I have a couple of those in with snakes, and they love them. So think the top half of a medium water turtle.

I was thinking of doing the hides 9" x 11", but it sounds like that's actually a little big. And here I was worried they'd be too small, lol

Snakes curl up into some tiny positions. It's pretty awesome watching my 5.5' boa slither into her tiny hide (which is actually still too big), it's like "where the hell did all that snake go?!?!?"

They like to feel secure and have the hide touching their back and sides. It is amazing how small they can make themselves to feel secure!
