Adult snake question

Jicin

Corn love
Yup. I bought a beautifull 13 month old corn at the fair yesterday. Quite a simpel bloodred but with amazing eyes.

I've never really handled an adult. Besides this one time when i was still looking for what snake to purchase. He thought me a mice and bit me. And a bit later in a pet store. He smelled awefull so i quickly put that one back to.

But now i got my own beauty :) Still, rather different then a baby corn. He proved that by first effectively ruining the viv's layout, diving in the water bowl and giving me a big argument over where he wanted to go and where not. He's really mellow though. Didn't try to bite once :)

How long should i leave him alone before handling? Same as hatchlings or can it be quicker? Then the scales on the thickest part of his body don't overlap. There neatly placed against each other. Is he starting to get overweight? Somehow the comparisation head/body seems off. If i try and compare photo's of other snakes it seems the head is relatively smaller then others. Should i adjust prey to the size of his head or the body?

The body could be bigger in diameter because the snake may have just eaten. The scales not overlaping could point to the fact that the body is enlarged a little to accomodate the food item. I would let the new adult stay and get used to his new home the same amount of time as the hatchlings. 3 days isn't all that bad.

lol. I know what you mean. I always want to hold and mess with new additions to my family too. was that way with my hatchlings with yet, and got a couple of nice strikes for my trouble. But, I think that it is a good rule of thumb to let a snake get adjusted to his/her new home before you try and get him/her adjusted to you.

Hah, thats a good one pcar. Hopefully, on Thursday, if I get my snake(I would like to purchase a baby ghost) it'll get used to its surroundings and then I'll be able to handle and hang out with the newest addition to my family! :wavey:

Well i handled him today for the first time. He was very cold. Appearantly 30 degrees on the warm side of the viv doesn't help if he's hiding in the cold side of the viv :/ Fixed that now.
Anyway since he was terribly cold he crawled up in my sleeve. After a bit crawled up through my clothes, over my neck and into my other sleeve. Not a nice thing with a cold snake :/ I put him back after he was nicely warmed up. Once again i found him a really sweet and docile snake :) Really happy with him :)

*Looks behind her*. Oh he's on and about cruising the viv :)

This is a picture i took right after i put him in his new home. Bussy trying to rip off the last meter taped on the glas. I take a better picture of him soon.

Beautiful Snake Jicin. Do you have substrate in there? don't see any. Was expecting to see some more of the green chips like in your avatar. 30 Degrees? Celcius?

I'm all out of the green substrate again. Theres 2 bags a viv and i can only buy in on reptile fairs for like 3 euro a bag. Instead i have normal woodships now. These are uncolored but *much* cheaper and i can buy at pet stores. I heard next month Aspen will be for sale here in Holland :) The bottom is cut of of the picture so you can't see it.

Yeah 30 degrees celcius. But i am beginning to think the Thermometer is broken as, even with double light, it still says 30 degrees. I buy another one tomorrow.

30 is pretty warm. That's 90 degrees F here. Nice looking snake! I think they still grow after a year though. A yearling isn't fully grown yet, so I don't think you'd have to worry about a weight issue just yet.

Oke thanks.

I just went to the pet store to get some pinkies and a peach fuzzy. I came home with a fuzzy and 2 even bigger mice. To big for my 1 1/2 month snakes and my 3 monts old had dinner 3 days ago.

I thought instead of freezing them i might just see if my yearling wanted them. After all he's here for 6 days already and pretty mellow. He snapped them both up :) I know the are really to small for a yearling. Next week he get's a mouse more up to his size. He was still hungry so i gave him the small one to. I tried to take a picture but he snapped it up so fast nothing is on the photo :D I really like how he just lifts them up into the air and let gravity do the trick.

Anyway just a small update on how he's doing. Great so far.

glad to hear that the new one ate well for you. and again, that is one beautiful snake.
