advise tips to find my snake pls

Hi all,

I'm very very upset at the moment cos my baby has escaped,i have no idea how cos the tank was all closed up..
Can anybody give me some tips about how i could catch her??maybe setting some sort of trap.
i have searched all dark corners and under all kinds of things but no luck,i live in the netherlands and it is getting rather cold with Autumn setting in.
Will she avoid cold areas?such as going outside which i think is also unlikely because doors haven't been open.
She is about 3 1/2 months old,how long should i look for before eventually saying to myself thats it?she ate last on Tuesday.
Hope someone can help me

We caught our snake with tape

Mom showed us on South Mountain Reptiles that they used the yellow tape to trap snakes. We put it all around the walls and corners sticky side up and checked them every day. We put some extra around the refrigerator because it is warm there. We also numbered the tapes so we would be sure to check them all every day. On the second night, one of the pieces was moved so we put it back and put some extra in that space. The night after that he was trapped! Dad took him off the tape and he is okay.

I hope you find yours. We were very happy when we found ours.

I have to disagree about the tape. I think it's a bit cruel but that's just me. Do a search for "escaped snake" and you will find a lot of info, there's a way to make a trap out of a plastic soda bottle by cutting the top off it and putting it back in the bottle backwards. A food item goes inside. In theory the snake goes in through the funnel-like entance, eats, and (hopefully) can't find the way out because it's in the middle and they generally stay around the edges. You will also need to escape-proof the viv, if it got out once it could get out again

Thanks for the tips guys,i will try the bottle idea for the next few days and i hope that does it,
i tried searching everywhere for her :shrugs:
I appreciate the suggestion about tape but am a bit scared that i might damage the skin when i take it off.

Thanks for your help

What are the temperatures like in your part of the world? If they're fairly cool, look around warm things. A month or two ago I built a new viv that (evidently) wasn't completely escape proof. I came home from work one day and noticed that my snake wasn't in it. Keeping in mind that he'd go somewhere warm, the first place I looked was underneath the viv (it had about an inch of space under it to set the UTH on its tile) and found him happily sleeping next to the UTH. I thought I fixed the problem, but when I got up the next morning, he was gone again...and I found him by the heater just like before. That was when it was still fairly warm out, so I'd imagine that there's a good chance yours is somewhere warm also.

its fairly cold outside where i live Ive looked in all the war places i can imagine he might be. Ive set the bottle trap. how long would the snake survive, without my care. thx fr your reply

it depends on if it was able to find a place to keep warm, and then (if it's gone for a really long time) whether or not it can find food. I've seen reports of people on here finding their snakes several months later with no problems.

it might not be as bad as you think, actually. About a year ago, a leopard frog got out at work. It wasn't found after a couple of weeks, assumed dead, and taken off of our records. About a month ago, we found it underneath a set of shelves in the same room where it had gotten out, and it was completely healthy and actually fatter than the ones that were still in our care. It had been living off of crickets that were loose in the room and probably cockroaches that were in there too... Also, I didn't work there at the time but I guess they lost a tokay gecko about 3 years ago in the same room...we're still finding evidence that it's alive and well! Don't lose hope just yet...

Ive placed its fav hideouts from Tera on floor with the bottle trap and a mouse inside, they are now on the heated mat from the Tera to try and create a dark warm environment for it to rest.
The thing is i spent a lot of money on the Tera and all accessories, and after some time with no luck i will be buying another snake to replace her,but don't want to go and do that too early in case she turns up.
she is only 2 days lost now,is the sense of smell/taste good enough to find food up to 8 meters away?
I really hope she comes back soon and if she does the Tera will be like fort Knox to stop this recurring..

A week after his escape I found one of my guys today.
I had set out a heat pad with a caged mouse beside it, a bowl of water and a hid from his viv. It took a week of searching but today I found him in the "trap". I hope I find my other escaped hatchling, he's been out for almost two weeks now.

everyone has already given great advice already so i only have one thing to add. you can put lines of flour around the place too. if the snake moves through it, you can tell where its been and which direction it was going. i lost my little guy last night. luckily i found him in a sock just over an hour later. i think he hid there to avoid the cats. just goes to show you never know where they could be.
i wish you good luck!

thanks everyone,
i am going to try the flour tonight,i already have the mouse and the heatpad down.
thank you all again,i will let you know the outcome :shrugs:
