Affixing UTH

My corns and kingsnakes are housed in separatel 20 gal tanks with UTH affixed to the outside bottom glass. When cleaning the tanks with chlorine soln and rinsing the attached (stuck) UTH are cumbersome. I believe I've noted in a post that some stick the UTH to a separate tile or glass plate instead of the bottom of the glass tank. I would think this has the advantage of easy removal when cleaning or transferring of the UTH to another tank. My questions??? Is the tile with UTH place directly on it in directly in contact with the tank glass bottom? In orther words, does the tank sit directly on the tile with affixed UTH on the tile top? Does the UTH affixed this way work O.K.? Any drawbacks with this arrangement? I would use a rheostat to control heat and a probe thermometer to monitor heat. Thanks for you help with this. Don

I think... the answer is yes. direct contact with bottom.
When I installed mine I left the paper on the sticky side and duck tape mine on.

I use a tile for all my UTHs and it works fine. I don't use a rheostat though, but I control temps by actually elevating the viv above the UTH. This is usually a very small distance, and I usually just end up propping the viv up on pop bottle caps or something similar. I'd much rather do this than attach the UTH to the viv because, like you said, it's much easier for cleaning and moving.
