African House Snakes

Does anyone on here keep this species? They don't seem to be very popular and I can't find much info on them.

I don't currently have any, but I've been considering picking one up. I saw them mentioned on SnakebytesTV, and looked them up out of curiousity. There are very few sites out there that have a whole lot of information that I found, unfortunately. www.housesnakes.net is one of the few information sites on them, and it's fairly comprehensive.

They are fascinatingly beautiful snakes - I wonder what other species of colubrids have vertical pupils... and I wonder why they are not so popular in the USA.

Say, which episode of SnakebytesTV did you see them on? I was actually looking for such an episode, but couldn't find any.

THey are getting Slightly more popular since we now have morphs. Albinos for sure are beautiful.
Lauren had a wonderful sweet chocolate red adult who has now passed on.
We have a baby red who is a spitfire and can't keep anything but pinkies down.
We have an olive who won't eat at all. She has been going without since Dec and was very bad about eating before that. She has taken only the very very occational live African soft fur. She drives us mad.

Are they all WC? I've read that they're easy eaters! Where did you get 'em from?

Striped are my favorite so far, from all the photos I've seen.

It was one of the more recent episodes...I'm thinking the episode on underrated snakes? He mentioned that he was looking for the next snakes he wanted to try his hand at.

I love the vertical pupils, and one of the morphs I saw was a deep green color...my daughter's favorite color is green and I was considering trying to get one for her. But as I have been placed on a snake buying moratorium for a while, she will just have to wait :D

Here is our dearly departed BIG girl!

Here is the Olive that will not eat. She was from Craigslist. No idea on history.

African House Snakes are my FAVORITE!
Here is the thread with mine:

The male died the other day. :(
When I had my large collection of Snakes a few years ago, I had MANY House Snakes and I produced quite a few babies.
Usually, House Snakes are extremely hardy snakes. They eat very well, they breed like rabbits and are generally pretty docile.
They are very "interactive" when being handled too.
Pictures of them never do them justice. Their iridescence is incredible.
C.B. House Snakes are pretty widely available. The striped can be hard to come by though. The most common House Snake in captivity in the states is the Cape House Snake.

I wish there was a community of breeders like cornsnakes.com, because it's really hard for me to find breeders.
