American Alligator Farm...In Cuba! :)

Hello!! I'm just back from spending 2weeks at a 4star all inclusive resort in Cuba with the boyfriend and his family, and have a few Herp related pics I thought you folks would enjoy. :)

American Alligators are native to Cuba but were almost wiped out being hunted for their meat, skin, teeth etc. Now there is a program to breed and re-introduce them to their native habitat. While at the farm I got to hold a 4month old baby gator and feed a couple of adults. It was pretty neat to be so close to these guys. I've got a video of me feeding them, but its on the other camera, I'll get it up ASAP.

Woops! Vicky, Your right. I got in early this morning, and have been too keyed up to sleep. LOL... Thats my story and I'm sticking to it!

A couple more fun ones:

First pic: This Pelican was hanging out, waiting for the perfect moment. He grabbed the whole tray of meat we were feeding the alligators. Its a pet of the owner of the place, and spoiled rotten. ;) Thats why its manners were so bad.

Second Pic: The resort I was staying at was build around a natural lagoon, so there were turtles living in the natural pools around the grounds.

Third Pic: These were oscars living in a pool near my building. Very pretty fish, I used to keep them so it was really neat to see them in a more natural envrionment.

Fourth Pic: I won a bottle of Rum my first day there, in a random draw!

Fifth Pic: The Perfect moment, a Frozen Coconut full of Rum on a hot Beach! Mucho Yummy.

Rosie!!!! I have missed you soo!!

I missed you too Wade. I even toasted you once. Seriously. I was having a tequila sunrise. The bartender liked me, so it had so much tequila in it half-way through I re-named it a 'tequila faceplant'. :dancer:

Looks like an awesome trip

American Crocodiles have made quite a come back in S. FL as well, amazing critters for sure

I was acutually pretty impressed by a few of the conservation efforts of the area. The whole resort was built in such a way that it doesn't interfere with the flow of the waterway near by. Its built around it, not over it.

I can't wait to see ALL the pics! It looks like such a nice place. I wish we could go there.

It was a really amazing trip. It used to be that you folks could get there if you flew to Toronto first...but alas no longer. ;)
I'm working on getting a digital album together.
