An introduction of my '09 Spider Ball Python - Aranya! (Major DUW)

Suzy

Shazoooooo!
I'm going to start with a long story first, though!

Last summer, there was a contest on another forum specifically for Ball Pythons. There was a normal female BP who was bred with a number of different morphed males - 18 to be exact. The contest was to guess the morph, gender, and weight of the first egg to pip. There were initially 6 eggs, but unfortunately 4 of them went bad. My guess was a 57 gram Female Spider, and I won the whole thing! There were approximately 250 guesses, and about 10 guesses for a Spider. She ended up coming out of the egg first, and she weighed in at 56.1 grams. Talk about lucky!

So the breeder notified me, and he told me that he was going to get her going, and we would ship within 4-6 weeks after her hatch date. In early November, I received her and I couldn't have been happier with how she looked. She was amazing, and I was so happy to have gotten her.

I offered her her first meal (a f/t rat pink) a week after getting her, and unfortunately she refused. 4 or 5 days later, she was cruising around her viv, so I tried again. She took a f/t meal with gusto! She has a feeding response that rivals my Black Milk's, and she has actually tagged me in a stupid feeding mistake. (I didn't have tongs for her yet...I do now! LOL)

So, I guess I should go ahead and post pictures instead of boring you with more blabber. LOL - These first pictures are from tonight.

And here are a few more - these are older, and they were taken after her first shed with me. She was really skittish during this photo shoot. (She's getting a lot better about that!)

I think that's it for now! Thanks for looking! :D

Thanks, Steph! :) I love her - she's so different from Colubrids.

David, that sounds really cool!

Great looking BP. I know there are some crazy exotic morphs out there, but my favorite is a spider. Just love the look.

What a sweet baby!! But wait- her mom did it with 18 males?? Or did I understand that wrong...

Thanks everybody for the comments. She's such an awesome snake. :)

You read it right. She copulated with 18 different males. I forgot to mention the other egg that made it was a Bumblebee (Pastel Spider), so they both had different dads. That's the good thing about working with dominant/co-dom morphs.
