Another case of the media misleading the public...

The part where the "expert" says that the puff adder "will actively pursue humans" makes me especially angry. No snake wakes up and says to itself "hmmm, I think I'll waste my precious venom that took so many calories to produce on something that I can't eat! Let's look for some humans to bite!"

Anyone else have any thoughts?

I agree. They might be one of the few that won't retreat if threatened by humans, but I don't think they "actively pursue" us like the video wants to make us believe. I like when they say the Boomslang is normally docile but if a human tries to catch it they can be deadly. Here's a thought...don't screw with it! As far as I know, they are mostly arboreal anyways, so that shouldn't be too hard.

PS. I think Black Mambas are one of the most gorgeous creatures out there!

I do a call-in show on NPR every year discussing snakes. You wouldn't believe the number of people who are convinced they have been chased (and sometimes bitten) by a snake.
