Hello everyone. My name is Amanda. I've loved animals my entire life. I've had a plated lizard, water dragon, hundreds of garter snakes, also a ball python. The Python never ate though and ended up dying. I've had tons of rodents as well but now that I'm 31 I'm so sick of rodents. I wanted a pet for me, not my kids, and I decided on a snake. I wanted something my kids could handle and nothing I would have to fear would hurt them. Plus I wanted something that is supposed to be 'easy' since it has been many years since Ive had a snake.

After some research I decided on a corn snake. We were going to save up to buy one but turns out I had one fall into my lap. I have an acquaintance that purchased one from petco or petsmart for their done a year and a half ago. He begged for it but once they got it he refused to hold it. Was scared of it. So the husband was taking care of it. So they offered it to me for free. I happily accepted. I've only had him for a few days but in those few days he has really changed in personality. He is willing to let me hold him now.

I've signed up to this forum mostly because I want to make sure I'm taking care of him properly. He's already eaten a pinky mouse for me, so he eats well. He shed for them and it was one solid piece that they showed me. I have many questions though regarding him. I've done some research but I'd rather talk to those who know them best. I'll have to search through the forums to find the right categories to ask my questions.

Thanks for reading :)

If he's a year and a half old, he should be on much bigger prey than a single pinky. Do you have a scale so you can find out how much he weighs, and do you have any pictures? How often were they feeding him?

That was one of my questions!! I really feel like he should be eating more. I have a scale but not digital and not sure he (no idea he or she) would cooperate but I'll try tomorrow. I have a pic of sorts but I can't figure out how to upload it on the app.

At 84 grams, he should be on hoppers once a week. I'm amazed he got that large on a single pinky a week.

So I should be feeding him hoppers?? Wow. I wasn't expecting that. They said a friend had one about his size and they were feeding fuzzy ones and they were shocked they could eat one at big at his size. Poor guy!! I have two frozen pinkies in the freezer. Can I feed those to him tomorrow even if he ate on Friday (one pinky)? I don't want to just toss them. I can get him a hopper next time.

Feed him the two pinkies on Wednesday, and then go out and get thee some hoppers. I start my snakes on fuzzies at about 30 grams, and move to hoppers at 60 grams, and then weanlings at 100 grams.

Welcome to the forum. Nothing to add to Shiari's good advice, but still wanted to say hello!:wavey:
