ANOTHER new snake!

I picked up my latest snake on Wednesday. I wasn't planning on adding a fifth so soon, but a few days after I got Sif, a member of my local Herp group messaged me on FB. He had rescued a snow stripe corn snake from his brother. His brother had had it for two years and neglected it badly.

At the time the guy from my group found out about it and removed the snake, he was absolutely covered in stuck sheds, had been without any water for at least 3 weeks, and was incredibly skittish and defensive from not ever being handled in it's entire two years. It's also very undersized from not being fed properly, about the same size as Kaa, even though it's twice his age.

The guy from my group just wanted it to go to a home where it was looked after properly, and he offered it to me for free! I couldn't turn that down, so I went to get him, and the guy sexed him for me, so without further ado, please meet Doctor Horrible!

These are the pictures that the guy sent me, I'll take some of my own once he's settled in more.

Thank you! I really think he's beautiful too! Poor guy will lose his tail tip though, thanks to a ton of stuck sheds, it's on the verge of falling off now. :( Same thing happened to Kaa when I got him though, it actually fell off on the way home, and he's fine, so I'm not too worried about it. Do you think he'll still grow to normal size now that he's being fed properly?

Yes, but I wouldn't feed him too much too quickly. He'll probably be behind others his age for a while. He doesn't really look skinny to me, so I wouldn't worry too much about making him gain weight.

That's good to know! I plan to feed him up slowly for sure. I'll weigh him once he's settled in, and although the guy who gave him to me said he was able to eat adult mice, I have a couple of weanling ones left and I plan to start him on those and ease him up to the adults.

It's going to take a while to calm him down as well, he's apparently got quite the attitude from not being handled, lol, although he did let me hold him before we packed him up to go home and he wasn't too bad. I'm sure he'll calm down fine with time though. I'm hoping to breed him to Vastra once she's old enough, she's a vanishing stripe anery, het for amel and hypo, so I figure I should get some pretty babies from them. :)

Very pretty guy and bonus that you are able to help get him out of that nasty situation. Good luck with him!

I bet his crankiness is more from lack of proper care than from not being handled. Once his tail tip is dealt with and he has proper heat, water, food, and hides, I bet he will be much nicer.

Well, it's been a couple of weeks since this guy removed him, and got him rehydrated and fed up, he was in MUCH worse shape than he was before, but I do agree, his tail tip likely is part of the issue, and the guy I got him from also said he does seem to be getting a bit better already. I think he'll calm down nicely with regular food, good living conditions and handling. :)

And we should all sing along with him, about how nice it is to have a good home!! (grin)

Lol, yes indeed! :) I was hoping someone would get the reference! I've already decided I need another male at some point that I can name Captain Hammer, lol.

New pic of Doctor H, he's really starting to mellow out a lot, still jumpy when I take him out, but he calms down really quickly. I think he's going to get really nice and tame with time. :)

Yayyy! He's looking good!
Maybe Captain Hammer should be something like a motley caramel? Horrible = blond Hammer = Brunette?
