Another Thermostat Question

Before some people start telling me to use the search function, get over yourself no one cares. My question is this I need to get a thermostat and have checked out the Zoomed 500r but havent seen really good reviews on it. I only need the thermostat to control one mat, or one cage. So the wattage load will be really low. I am sort of on a budget and was wondering what you people think would work out for me. Thanks.

What a charmer! :grin01:

If Flagg told me that oranges were blue, I'd trust his opinion. But why the heck wouldn't you WANT to use the search function in a case like this? I don't have a problem with you asking this question, but why wouldn't you want to see if there are already opinions on this product? Were you afraid that you'd be denied an opportunity to be hostile? :shrugs:

Nope, because I have read all of those past threads dealing with that thermostat but a lot of people are asking because they are using a rack or multiple cages. I just need it to power one cage is why I am asking in this thread. Thanks I will check out that Zoomed one.

If you are on a low budget, and have one tank, have you tried a rheostat? The dimmers they sell at wal-mart would work fine for one tank. Only thing with those are, that your room temps have to be constant, otherwise the temperture of the heat mat will fluctuate. So it needs constant tweeking. But, its cheap, at only a couple bucks.

I use the 500R for my one tank and it works ok. It takes a little tweaking to get the range to where you want it but once its there it will stay at that temp (+ or - a few degrees). However it does not have a digital display so you will need to get a indoor/outdoor thermometer with a probe ($11 at Wal-Mart) otherwise you will have no idea what the temp is over the mat.

I'm a bit nervous... :0(

Well I can't get to Wal-mart right now since I am working and I am a bit busy..but I have moved the gauge thermometer that was on the outside of the tank to the inside and under the basking light I have warming the tank..I'll try and buy the digital thermometer with the probe and a dimmer as soon as I can..but how does the dimmer work? and also..after reading all the warning signs on the back of the heat mat I'm extremely nervous to put it under the tank since my tank has a glass bottom and not one of those hard bottoms..I just don't want to end up cooking my corn (a bit of humor there..)..also I will try and buy a small second hide for the cooler end of the tank..right now the heat matt is still stuck on the right side..is it safe to peel it off or will it break now that I put it on?? I'm sorry for all the questions but I just feel this is very important things I need to know..thank you everyone for your advice and help.. :0)
