Im designing a custom built and carved tank for my new corn and was curiouse if it was possible to wire a dimmer switch to flexwatt to regulate the power going to it (kinda of like a diy thermo) if it works like im thinking it cant be any different tahn the zoo meds rheostat. (i know themostats arent all that expensive but i think it would be nice to have a dial built into the stand/tank

Awesome wouldn't by chance have any schematics or wiring diagrams would ya (in sure its super simple but im no electrician)

Problem with just a rheostat is that when ambient temps fluctuate so will the temps in the tank. So if it gets really warm or really cool you will have to make adjustments to the rheostat to compensate whereas a thermostat is pretty much set it and forget it.

i meant wiring diagram for the dimmer/flexwatt combo but i guess in the long run i will be better off just getting a thermostat instead of trying to save a few bucks and catching my house afire

I'm not sure if this is what you mean, but I've wired several dimmers based on the following thread and use them to control flexwatt

Hey Busta... :)

I have two racks and two shelving units in my room as well as 8 tanks in my family and living rooms. All of these are wired with flexwatt that I soldered and wired to dimmer switches. They've been up for 6 months and are working perfectly. I'm no electrician either and not a whiff or spark to speak of :)

I used the plans that have been posted previously in this thread. It's remarkably easy and makes you feel like Wonder Woman :D Okay - in your case it would be like Superman or some other appropriate super hero! But you get the idea....

Good Luck!
