Any good ideas on dividing a 40g breeder temporarily?

So this is my issue... I need to divide a 2 year old corn snake and a baby corn snake. My funds are limited for the next few weeks, but I will have them both regardless because I don't have a choice really. Have a 40g breeder tank that I need to temporarily divide. Not permanently just for a few weeks. I really don't want my 2 year old blood to eat the newbie. Any way I can divide this enclosure safely?

If you have any handyman skills you can get a sheet of glass.. Cut to fit in the tank where you want to divide it and then silicone it. Be care as cutting glass you are at a risk of slicing your hand open if you don't wear gloves or aren't cautious. You may also try googling some methods on how to divide a glass tank. When you want to remove the piece you can cut the silicone attaching the glass to the tank and then clean the rest of the glass up with a scraper.. Just a thought as I built a sump for my saltwater tank adding glass dividers for each compartment so it's really not that difficult! Remember google is your friend!

Thick piece of cardboard cut to fit tight would probably work. Could probably get away with hot glue instead of silicone sealant too. That would make removal later a lot easier. Just make sure it's plenty sturdy, and if it wont fit all the way to the top (sometimes the case with sliding screen tops) then definitely make sure they don't have anything to allow them to climb that high. And of course keep an eye on them, because snakes are good at getting where you don't want them to.

Hot glue would be faster, it's safe as soon as it's dry, a few minutes tops. Silicone needs time to cure so you would need a different place for the snakes to be for at least 24hrs but probably more like a few days, if you can smell the silicone it's not safe yet.

As mentioned, I wouldn't silicone either as you need a few days for it to cure and for the fumes to go away.
Cardboard would possibly work for a couple days, but you need to cut it to fit perfectly.
I built a Styrofoam background for my 90gal for under $50 including high quality Styrofoam, grout, glue, paint, and sealant. You could easily just cut styrofoam for a tight fit as a divider, which wouldn't cost you much

If you divide your 40gal breeder, how are you going to manage with maintaining temps? Do you have an extra UTH?

If so, I would then recommend you just go to Walmart and buy a tupperware/plastic tub with click-lock lid. Probably twenty bucks, you just need to regulate your heat.

Regardless of what route you choose, you have two snakes you must ensure are comfortable. That means they both need water, proper and regulated temps, and warm/cool hides. I don't think you can avoid spending at least $50 to ensure both snakes will remain healthy and happy, even as a temporary means.

I bought a divider for a 20L on eBay. Do some research online and see if they make them for your size.
