Hey all, I just moved my lil corn into his new barrs cage. For substrate I used repti-bark and torn papertowel ... his mom suggested the paper towel. I've set up both hides, and transferred the UTH to the new viv. I put him in along with his water bowl, and all he does is burro himself under the substrate...Im guess that this is ok. Although kind of scarey for me since I can never find him in the viv. So I put the water dish all the way down on the bottom of the cage, so he at least couldnt get under there.

I also wondered what level of substrate was ideal, right now my substrate is at 1" and 3/4". Is this too much to allow the UTH to work? I just put in what I had and leveled it. But I can always take it out.

Anyways, just wanted to say he finally is in his normal viv....although the temp one was soooo much easier to find him. A lil brown snake is easier to find in gray and white material than brown bark!

Everything sounds great, congrats on the Barrs cage....I'm hoping this spring I'll get some myself. They will naturally burrow so don't worry about that. If your snake is brown you might want to try aspen, it might show him off a little better and make it easier for you to find him. I have light colored snakes and have a heck of a time finding them in it though. I would love to use Repti Bark, but it is just not cost effective as aspen is so much cheaper and easier to find the poops in. :wavey:

I've got another question. Since I just moved him into yet another new enclosure, how long should I wait to feed him. He was fed about 2 weeks ago by the lady I bought him from, I wanted to let him settle in before I tried to feed him....and now I've gone and moved him again. Should I give him a day or two before I feed?

I might give him a day, but since it wasn't a big trip or anything it shouldn't be a problem. Are you feeding him in a separate container or in his viv?

I would wait a couple of days - just to let him settle, explore his new surroundings and work up an appetite :)

I plan to feed him in his old temp cage. Which just has paper towels and newspaper lining the bottom.

If you are going to feed in a separate container, does the container need a heat source. Or would I just wait for him to eat it, and then put him back in his viv?

Okay, so now his old cage will be the separate container! Cool. I don't use a heat source since it takes very little time for mine to be done eating. I just carefully place them back in their vivs when they are done.

Hooray! My first successful feeding. Since he was doing so well, and was so calm around me and such, I decided I would at least try to give him something, since it had been a lil while for the guy.

I put him in his container, and stuck the mouse in too, but he just kind of went past it, looked more interested in his surroundings than usual, was smelling a bunch. I picked the mouse up with my tongs (aka chopsticks) and put it right in front of him...and he went for it in a second! =)

He then did his thang, swallowing and all, and after a little while, once his lump had moved down a bit, I put him back in his cage.

Wooohoo
