I know this is a cornsnake forum, but I haven't found any help on the ball python forum and I know several of you keep ball pythons too.

I have a 400g male that I'm trying to breed this season. I need to check for sperm plugs, but I'm having trouble popping him. He was sold to me as a male and he probes male (while also pooping on me EVERY time he's probed). However, he doesn't pop male.

I am looking for someone to help me learn how to pop ball pythons. I can pop corns just fine but I need some guidance with ball pythons. Please don't link me to videos. Trust me, I've watched them. I'm more of a hands-on learner anyway.

Popping them at that size really isn't safe, they have more developed muscles in that area now and popping them is not only difficult, but can injure them. Best thing I can tell you is get your hands on a known hatchling male and pop it.

The problem is that everyone on the ball python forums pop at all ages and that's how they test for plugs. I want to learn how to pop him because I don't want to hurt him at all...thus why I'm asking for help. Most people don't probe ball pythons because popping is more accurate.

Not only that, but I don't know anyone with hatchling males that aren't already 200g+
