Anything I can do?

Hey guys its been awhile since i've been here. Just lots of going on and time passes by way to fast. Recently I moved into a town where they don't allow snakes, rabbits, and certain dogs. I was looking around to purchase a corn snake and I found out that I wasn't allowed to own them in city limits. Is their anything I can do to get this animals allowed in town so more people can experience the joy of this animals? Any help is much appreciated, thank you for time.

What the Hell? That's nuts.. I can understand maybe.... maybe venomous snakes.. but a corn snake? Obviously the person (s) that made those rules were smoking crack at the time.. and obviously don't know smack about corn snakes. lol

I can kind of understand about not allowing venomous snakes.. but rabbits? what the hell? do they think the rabbits are killer rabbits like in Monty Python's Holy Grail (those of us that are old enough to know who they are)...and any kind of dog can attack if it goes nuts or is rabid.. not just certain dogs.. like pit bulls, etc.. assuming that's the kind of dogs they mean. And for the record, pit bulls are not naturally hateful by nature.. they are made that way by people that train them to fight..

I am not sure how you can start protesting that other than get people to sign a petition of some sort..

I hope you get something done about it, at least...

Hey! Don't make it sound like those who do know it, are old!!

I'd personally move. That city doesn't sound like a nice place to live.

Other wise, I'd start a petition. Corns aren't deadly... at all.

Be careful! I had a rabbit attack a chicken once. Don't underestimate the little fluff long eared rodents.

I would look up stuff to start a petition for legalizing corn snakes in your area.

Well, like I said.. I can understand why they wouldn't allow venomous snakes..and yeah any animal when provoked might attack.. but it's just so stupid not to allow corn snakes.. they are non-venomous for pete sake.

Obviously the person or board that made these rules didn't do their research work. Their bad...

Sorry people, but unless you are eating it, a snake is NOT POISONOUS. The word is venomous. We should at least sound more educated than the town council that banned these animals in the first place.

This town has no business and no right to micromanage people's lives the way they are.
My stance on this issue, is that unless you are hurting other people or infringing on the rights of others, then the government has no business telling you what you can or cannot do. Whatever animal you want to keep is your business, and yours alone. Unless of course you are leasing, and a private individual owns the property you are leasing, then they have the right to call the shots.
This angers me no end.

Everyone will probably disagree but you can just buy one in another town and ignore the rule. I would do that haha.

I don't disagree at all. As long as someone's not hurting anybody or anything, they should be allowed to do whatever they want in their own home. It's something I like to refer to as the idea of freedom.

I agree with starting a petition.
I know this isn't right either.....but I also agree buy one bring it home and keep it anyways. Can't legally come into your house, and I would like to think my own friends wouldn't report me. So if it isn't in direct view of strangers standing in the doorway.....Like what was said....what they don't know won't hurt them.

But the first bit is reality the second is a knee jerk reaction that should be ignored.

I think you should start a petition.

Also, I know that the city I live in has a Boa ban, and the reason is high release rates. The little boa gets too big and suddenly it's out in the wild where it preys on indigenous animals and even people's pets. It sucks for responsible snake owners, but I can kind of see where they're coming from. Personally I would love a ball python but I can't have one.

I've been reading recently a lot of people posting saying that their landlord won't allow them to have pets. In Ontario, a landlord is legally not allowed to tell you that you cannot keep pets. I'm guessing it's not the same in the states?

Haha!

I can see the headlines now: Tropical parts of Canada infested with a huge wave of invading boas and pythons!

Makes about as much sense as banning boas and pythons for most of the U.S., lol! I think winter will take care of the problem in MOST of North America, at least the parts north of south Florida and Mexico!

Just out of curiosity, what town is this that you live in?
