aquarium lights

I was looking to buy an aquarium light for a 20 gallon aquarium on PetsMart.com and the prices are unbelievable. Once 20 gallon canopy light costs about $170. What am I supposed to do and what other options are there?

Hi. Why not just put a light fitting for a single bulb at one end of the tank. This will cost very little and will give you a warm end and a cool end. You can change the bulb size to give you the correct temperature.

Petwarehouse.com has much better prices.

I would put a screen top and a flourescent light strip. 30 inch is under $40

wal-mart--- 18 inch fluorescent light 15 bucks.... for wal-mart haters (the big corporate fascists that they are) the same thing at lowe's (more corporate fascists but what can you do) is about 20.... :) ---jim

I recommend these.

They work great for providing heat and light. All I really need is a 15- or 20-watt bulb to bring the warm side to the right temp. I like heat lamps better than untertank heat pads, anyway. Heat pads (at least the one's I've tried) get way to hot without attaching a thermostat. Pick up a cheap timer at Wal-Mart or somplace and set it for around 12 hours on.
