Are they mating or are they not?

When I put the male in the tank so they can breed all that happens is the female chases the male she crawls on top on him and jerks weird then and the male just tried to run away. I thought the male was supposed to chase the female? Can anyone please help me out? Any tips on how to get them to breed? I REALLY want a clutch this year!! I tried last year too (with different snakes) and it didn't work either.

leave them a little longer but the male is suppose to be the one chasing she might just be ovulating & ready? Any more experienced out there care to chime in?

I see this is your first post, your new and your from my neck of the woods. Perhaps you should introduce yourself in the New Member Intro section. Post some pics of the corns you have as well. The more we know the more we can help you. There could be a number of different reasons for snakes not being interested in mating.

Are you absolutely sure their genders?
Are they 3yrs old 300g? (breeding age and weight)
Have they been Brumated?
If so have they shed since they have been warmed up?

These are just questions I know to ask because I hope to breed in the near future and I am learning all I can before I get to that stage.

Just keep trying. Put them together and leave them together for a day or two. Then separate them, feed them, wait a couple of days and put them back together. I may take several tries.

Sounds to me like the one you think is female is really a male! Those are typically male behaviors from what I have read here. I do agree though what are their weights? The female really should be at least 300 grams to breed. Especially for a first timer. How long have you had these snakes? You may want to get them probed. I should have my probes soon and will be double checking my snakes genders as soon as I have them. Mostly because a snake I bought as a possibly gravid female seems to be a male.

I know 100% their gender is correct. They are both proven breeders by a previous owner and they are both well at 300grams. I'm really disappointed about this : (

Read up as much as possible on snake breeding. Don't give up yet you can always try again in 2 more weeks.

I'm sorry I was given records that my "female" amel had had slugs last year but "seh was cohabbed with two other snakes so I took it with a grain of salt to begin with. Records can be mixed up and mistakes made. The female really does sound male to me. What records came with them to be sure? I am not saying the breeder lied, no matter which really is the male or female you will get the same babies so its not that big a deal in this instance. I'm just saying mistakes can be made. Even for the big time breeders. Did the breeder you got them from happen to cohab? If yes then the mix up would be VERY easy to make. Either way it does sound like you have a male and female there. Good luck!

If you want, you can try posting a picture of the underside of their tales from the anal plate to the tip and most of us could probably give you a pretty good idea of which is male and which is female. I've witnessed a lot of scenarios where a male will literally try to breed with another male...this is aside from combat. But I don't know that I've ever seen a female act like she was the male, at least not in snakes. But that doesn't mean it couldn't happen.

Its funny how many times I have been 100% of the gender and it has been wrong. Don't give up, corns are incredibly easy to breed, leave them together for a few days, give them a break, and let them go at it again. Good luck and try not to get too discouraged.
