ASPEN??anywheres else besides petstores

no petstores in my area have aspen, i was thinking of changing from paper towel to aspen, any ideas where else i might wanna check??maybe a home improvement store??or walmart maybe?
 
Wal-mart generally does carry it. Usually the Kaytee brand, if I'm not mistaken. It's aspen, but for some reason that brand is particulary dusty.

Have you tried looking at feed mills or grain elevators? That's basically where I get it, although I buy the 9 cu. ft. bale.

If all else fails, you could order it online from a variety of vendors.

Yeah, you could check Walmart, the one here carries it. One thing about aspen, I have found that not all aspen is the same. For instance the Katee brand, which is the most common around here, is horrible IMO. I find it to be full of large chunks and just plain rough. I've been using a brand called Sunthing Special by Sun Seed and find it to be a lot softer. :cheers:
 
we have a place around here to get feed for horses and animals like that, so maybe i'll give that a try... thanks for the info on the walmart brand... i would have definatley got it! ill check the farm feeds store and if all else fails i'll have to keep using newspaper for a while! thanks
 
I buy mine from a local feedstore, but it comes in BIG bags! But it is cheaper per pound than the small bags.

If you look in Wal Mart, look in the pet section where they sell hamster supplies.
 
im going on the hunt right now..... so i geuss stay away from the walmart brand stuff unless i have to eh???

Really best to judge for yourself, remember the Wamart near you may carry something else. Katee is the brand that I said I didn't like, and Kathy added that it was dusty. The aspen in the walmart near me is not Katee, so, if you are able to find 2 different brands, buy small bags of each and see what you like best. Good Luck.
 
i found 1 samll bag of aspen at walmart it is natures gold 100% aspen. seems clean and not dusty..i didnt even see katee brand or whatever...there was only 1 bag tucked way in the back at the very top of the huge shelf..i had to get it down with a rake.
 
sun seed is a very nice brand of aspen if you can get it. it is in nice soft flakes, but it can take a bot of time to fluff it up, as its packed in pretty hard
