Awful pet store...

I could not believe what I was witness to this afternoon...Ever since I got Kate I have known that I want to get a second one, and i finally decided on an "anery". So today I went and checked out a few pet shops. First of all, only one of them actually had one. And in this tank they had 7 baby corns, multiple old shed and lots of poop, the tank was labeled "black corns" (ever though there were amels and snows in the tank along with the one anery.) they were 49.99. I was already disgusted with this, but the owner was standing right there so I decided to ask him a few questions. I asked when they were hatched and he told me, "oh, december some time" When asked when they had last been fed or had shed he just looked at me like I was nosy. no answers for that. I realize that this was only one example of a bad pet shop, but it has totally turned me off to the experience. I can say that I definetely wont be going the pet shop route when I decide to get my next corn.

yep...There are some really sucky pet stores out there...Not saying all are bad..There are a few that do know what their doing..but sadly a majority of pet stores are only in it for the money and don't really worry about the full correct care for snakes and other animals..:confused:

I agree a vast majority of pet stores leave a lot to be desired in the pet care and knowledge area.

But do not write off all pet sotres because of this. In my lifetime, I have found a handful of pet stores that are exceptional. My advice is if there are other pet stores in your area, visit them and see how they are. If you cannot find one, there are a great number of people on here that you can order an anery from.

I also want to say that I've found some good pet stores. My local 'mom and pop' reptile shop is great. They come up with some funky names for some morphs, but keep feeding records, a large selection of books (including the Cornsnake Manual), and generally know their stuff.

There are a couple local reptile specialty shops here that I really like. I made the mistake of stopping at a Petland the other day, though, to look for something for my cats... No corns there, but they had a BP with stuck shed all over it, and both the BP and a Boa had empty water dishes. :(

Hey NinaCaliente...is that your Second Life character you have as an avatar?

No, it's Nina Caliente from Sims2. I played that game heavily for awhile, and frequently used that character as a legacy founder. I started using it as a forum name then, and still do now. :)

I'm talking about twin cities reptiles

Those plastic containers are called deli cups, and I think it's pretty common for breeders to keep hatchlings in them. I purchased my adult corn and my BP from Twin City Reptile, and both have done very well so far.

There's another smaller shop in Burnsville called Leaping Lizards that you could try if you like. The proprietor of that shop is very personable, and great about answering questions. Our other corns and our BRB came from her, and they've all done well so far too. :)

Yep

Luckily, I live in San Diego so there are a variety of pet stores in the general area that cater to all sorts of animals. That being said, I have yet to find one. I will do some more searching since I will undoubtably be needing other supplies but as far as animals go, I am fairly sure that I am going to wait until the reptile expo comes to town and then try to buy from someone there who knows there stuff and cares about animals. I think that the expo is in town in July, and I have Kate to keep me company.

TA!
