Baby blocked up?

Stygian Faerie

Raaaawr!
This hatchling is 3 weeks old, drinks its water as normal and has fed twice. Only problem, it's not pooping. Had a good look at it today and noticed a bulge at the vent, thinking it was finally going to poop I was quite pleased until I noticed something unusual. It's almost like a layer of skin covering its vent? I got the OH to get a pic for me to show you guys. I will be taking it to a vet asap but wanted to know if anyone has any experience with this? Do you think it can be fixed or is this little one gotta go for the big sleep? I hope not, it's the best feeder I have. First one to feed and even struck for it's second... :( :(

No, it's inside the vent and it's not the same kind of skin as the scales. It's like the bubble of skin you get from a blister. I'm thinking that it's probably not developed properly and it's just a membrane that should hopefully be easy to fix. *fingers crossed*

I don't know :( I was really hoping someone on here would have had the same issue and be able to let me know what to expect. Going to the vet on Monday.

The vet is the best option, I don't think any home remedies are going to help.

Have you ever seen this snake pass stool at all?

It's going to the vet no matter what, I'm not asking for any home remedies just an idea of what's going on. It's never managed to defecate as far as I'm aware. I'm stumped here. It could be a prolapse, it could be poor development, it could be cloacoliths... I'm just wondering if anyone has seen this before.

I don't know if this will help but here's a zoomed in pic of the cloaca.

(I hope it works)

I don't think anyone has seen anything like it before. I have, in humans. The digestive tract isn't formed all the way down to the end. In humans, though, the baby can have surgery to fix it, and gets an ostomy to eliminate from in the mean time.

You don't know if the cloaca behind that is complete or not. It may not be as simple as just cutting an opening in it.

The vet is the best bet, I also suggest you email these guys... http://newenglandreptile.com/nerd/i...contact/Itemid,100070/contact_id,1/task,view/

They are incredibly knowledgable, beyond friendly and helpful! I had a vent problem, our little guy injured his {basically he mangled it}, and the guys at NERD were just SO helpful. I spoke with them after seeing two vets, the first vet was a joke. But it was the guys at NERD that set my mind at ease and explained to me the best way to set up a "hospital viv". Heck, they even offered to take a look at him if it didn't heal up in a few months {didn't end up happening, but I thought that was great of them}.

Since I've dealt with a "messy" vent, I feel quite comfortable in suggesting to you to get your little one off of aspen and onto paper towels. And get anything even somewhat abrasive out of his viv. Only keep in there what is soft and smooth for him/her to go over so as not to aggravate the vent area. Best wishes to you and your wee one.

He's on paper towels, has a small ceramic dish for water and a paper cup that's been cut for a hide. All my babies get the same set up.

Thank you for the link, I'll e-mail them now :)
