baby corn

Most snakes that i've seen never get fat until they become adults because younger snakes tend to put all food energy and nutrients into growth.

I have an almost 8 month old corn who has been fed twice a week since i got him at two weeks or so old. He is not fat but has used all of his food for growth. He is currently about 100 grams and about 28-29 inches long.

If you have a weight for your snake then that might be able to help us more :)

unfortunately i dont have a scale. i dont even know if the snake is female or male. the petstore insists she must be fat if she is eating twice a week. here are some pictures of her. i dunno if that'll help.

good luck with her ;)

Ugh, pet stores!

People at pet stores very often don't have any clue what they're talking about. Unfortunately, many of them think they do, just because they happen to work there. Most pet stores are about the worst place you could go for advice about your pet.

Of course, there are exceptions. Some pet stores keep animals in good conditions and have knowledgeable employees. Sadly, this is not the norm.

well thats exactly why i didnt beleive them and i continued to feed her twice a week even though they told me not to. they also said i was increasing the size of the food too quickly, but i go by her size. i feed her what she should be eating. 99% of the time it is best to ignore the petstore ppl. but i still wanted to double check.

i think it's possibly a case of them thinking you were feeding too much as you can easily only feed once a week.. i read some place that corn will feed any chance they get so it's easy to over feed them..

it's not needed to feed that often..

i currently feed 3 large fuzzies once a week... which means that there's only only one period of time during the week i can't handle her... so if anything there's an advantage to once a week feeding.. !

i only feed her one pinky at a time. would it be ok to give her both at one time? i just dont want her to get hungry.

Look, its your choice.

Feeding twice per week is 100% alright. Its NOT overfeeding and its not powerfeeding. If you want to fed twice per week, fine. The only time it really becomes a concern is when the snake is over a year or so old and its metabolisim slows. Before then though twice a week is far below what could be considered too much.

If you do want to decide to fed twice per week, one prey item is fine. If you want to fed once per week, two is fine.
