Baby just home. Looks very thin...

Okay, so I just got one of my two new hatchlings home tonight and she looks very thin and seems very innactive, especially when compared to her hatchmate that I also just brought home.
The lady said they had eaten two days ago. The Amel? looks much bigger. This little one actually has skin hanging a bit like I've seen in other pics online before.

What should I do? Is there something I can do to make sure she/he's okay right now? She/he's alert, but not wanting to go and hide out like the other new one. Is this okay. I placed her on the warmer side of the tank for now.

The first pic is for size comparison with the other that I got with her tonight.
The next four are hard to tell, but are supposed to be showing the loose skin around his/ her neck area.
And the last pic is what the seller e-mailed me this morning, saying that he/she had eaten two days ago.

She did happen to mention to me tonight that she initially had a bit of a hard time with this one eating at first, but that she has now 2-3 meals with no problem, f/t.

I don't want to return this baby, as it looks and sounds as if I will have a better chance with her compared to this lady who had 9 housed together of varying ages.

Any input would be very well appriciated, you guys!!

my goodness!! it is really tiny! I cant imagine having those 2 little ones in with a huge group of adults :( I think you basically are doing everything you can for it right now :) Give it 2-3 days to settle in and try to feed. I think a 4 day schedule for this one would be ok because of being so tiny and not having a very good start in life. Try to get new born mice, nothing over a day or 2 old.... the very tiniest you can... I hope everything goes ok... you just never know with a baby who started out by refuseing and then getting it after only 2-3 feeds... I wish you all the very best of luck and you know I will be watching for updates :) btw.... just thought I would add... I am glad you got them!! atleast now they have a chance :)
 
I just posted my pics "PINKY AND THE BRAIN" Pinky is the runt, she just started eating, and they are 4 months old

You made me have a little sigh of relief.
I love that Pinky and The Brain business, btw.

And, the new little Anery, (I'm guessing now) has currently decided to slither around the viv and snuggle up under some aspen. She (according to my 9 year old who says SHE's hers) seems nice and cozy and tucked in for the night.........

"She" looks gorgeous!

I agree to give her a couple of days to settle then feed her the smallest pinkies you can find. I would put her on a 4 day feed schedule and see how she grows. Keep us updated!

This is with the flash off, so as not to disturb her teeny little snakey self.
Does this mean I can actually feed her as much as I've been over-feeding my hypo, Piggly Wiggly? That was rhetorical. Sorry. Yes, I will feed her on a four day feeding cycle.
Should I then put the other two, my 3 1/2 month old Hypo and my new (much bigger than this Anery?) on a five day cycle? Would that be okay, or is that too much ?
Sorry so many questions. I just want to get it right. I love my three little munchkins.

P.S. Those would be three cute names; Hear No Evil, Speak No Evil, and See No Evil. At least I think so..........
 
The "Munson Plan" which is the standard many people use when feeding their snakes call for a 4-5 feeding cycle until the snake reaches 24 grams in weight. So I think of you put the others on a 5 day cycle they would be strong and healthy.

Thank you. I'll have to discuss the idea of the names with the usual final authority on these things, my all-knowing 9 yr. old daughter. Our cat's are named Moo-Moo, Road and Twilight. I came up with only Twilight.
Anyway, thanks for reminding me about the Munson plan, and your encouragement.
I think this calls for me to buy a scale now. Mental note, must start looking for good priced scales. Ha ha.

Make sure you check Ebay. I just bought a good scale for $16.

First make sure it measures in grams. Than you want one that is accurate to at least 1 gram. Next you will want it to measure up to at least 500 grams.

You will find a bunch on Ebay. Actually the one I bought only cost $2 but had $16 for shipping and insurance. But the same scale would cost $25+ in a store.
 
Congratulations on your 2 new corns :)

I was thinking that the loose skin could be down, or partly, due to dehydration? Providing he/she has access to plenty of fresh water it will be fine. Good luck with the feeding, im sure they have a much better chance now that they are in your hands :)
 
I picked up my scale at walmart.... was $30 but had all I was looking for. grams and ounces... from 1 gram to well... my biggest snake also gets weighed on it and he weighs 1100 grams so.. :) but also has a huge weighing spot so that just about any size container can be used.... plus make sure you have one you can tare or zero out :)

I agree, the loose skin you are seeing may be from dehydration.... so when you have them out to feed, after feeding and you go to put them back kinda put them over the water dish so that they can either drink or really know where it is later so they can sneak a drink :)

5 days for the others should be fine :) Will make it alot easier for trying to remember as well :)
 
Regarding dehydration: I did have the sense of mind to hold that baby over the water bowl when I put her in. She either didn't know what it was or really wasn't interested. Snake mommy sense, I must have. Ha ha.
And I don't know if it's just because she may be a bit weak from everything, but she seem like she is very much not shy of people. I just got up (early) to check on the new babies, and this one is right out in the open. I hope this is just her personality.

I'll be working on the scale issue as fast as I can. I really want to monitor her weight closely. So, thanks for all the tips you guys.

Well considering the picture from the previous owner had her being fed IN HAND! I doubt she has much fear of people anymore.
 
Good point Zach. I just hope that meant she actually ate the pinky.
The previous owner did seem very sweet and like she loved her many animals very much, so that helps.
