back home from college

well i just came back home from college but October has had this problem with his tank for about the past week or so...
Basically for the past week or two the temperatures at school ( and home which is an hour and a half away) have dropped to an average of 40-33 degrees. Last night the night before I moved out he went into shed, and I brought him back to home from school with me today. With the change in temperature, and my roommate moving out with the humidifier, the humidity in his tank has dropped. I have two humidity gauges in his viv, one is a dial that reads 60, and the other is one of those acu- digital temp/humidity gauge that reads 86.7 degrees and for humidity it will read between 20% and "Lo". The dial is at the top of the tank and the digital probe is at the bottom next to his warm hide. I'm not sure what to believe, or if the probe is broken or what. Also when would the next best day for me to feed him be since i just moved back home. the last time i fed him was december 9th cause we went into shed the following week.

Thankya kindly!!!

The probe is probably more accurate than the dial gauge, but if you're worried about humidity, you can try:
1. Moving the water dish closer to the warm end
2. loosely covering part of the screen top with cellophane
3. misting regularly
4. providing a humdity hide.

I've tried suggestions 1,2, and 3. but for the cellophane i used plastic wrap ( we're kindasnowed in the house). The digital probe didn't seem to hcange any. it still says "low" but the dial gauge at the top of the tank actually went up to 70%

Dial gauges are notoriously inaccurate, so the one with the probe is probably correct. I would just add a humid hide while he is blue and not worry about it. You *can* feed while they are blue. Some will eat and some won't...you never know until you try. If you are concerned, then feed a smaller than average mouse. Or you can wait until he sheds and feed then.

so i am going to leave a constant humidity hide in his viv
I did that once and the Corn decided to spend most of her time in it. She ended up with scale rot which took months to clear up.

If I use humid hides, I only ever put them in the tanks when the snake has already gone blue and I removed them after the shed. I'd recommend you do the same, just in case. They don't need constant higher humidity.

Oh, that can cause scale rot? Crap, I've left mine in because it became Boo's favorite place.

It might be OK if you replaced the damp substrate with dry stuff instead? Even then, humid hides tend to be low on ventilation due to the need to keep the damp in.

I have a hide made from a butter tub, which has a hole cut out in the side and 2 small holes in the top. When my snake is in blue i take out the hide and put some damp paper towel in it, i put new in every couple of days untill she has shed. I then remove all the damp stuff, clean the tub out and then put dry strips of paper towel in there. She loves it in the and is the main hide she uses.

is there a way that i could test my digital probe's humidity, or should i buy one specitifically made for vivs, and compare the two.

Hey everyone thanks for your help. I actually went out to Petsmart today to by a new hydometer/thermometer to put into the tank, which reads the humidity, meaning that the Acu-Rite probe I had previously was broken.
