anybody using any kind of background for their corns? i am thinking that can i just use any kind of foam and "paint" it to put in my tank? if not, where can i find some that is for 20 gallons long tank?? thanks

I wouldn't put foam in a tank with a Corn. Just because foam is full of chemicals, but you should be able to find a background at a petco or petsmart, or if you have any local reptile shops in your area. I would just call around so you don't waste a car trip. Of course you can order on line.(if you can wait for it to get to you!) :D

well you can basically get a background from any pet store just go to the fish alise or the reptile alise and ask them to cut one of the backgrounds (should be on a roll hanging on the wall of a shelves) for a 20L and just stick it on the inside of you enclosure. here is a pic of one of my older ones(also was using eco-earth):

looks very different now need to get some new pics...:)

I've been considering the foam route myself. It is perfectly safe when applied, sealed, and finished properly. I don't have the links with me, but there are some excellent websites out there about terrarium/vivarium design for tree frogs with expanding foam used as the basis for the terrain.

That said though, it'd be a lot more expensive to apply it properly than to buy one of many premade backgrounds.

That's cool, I didn't really think that there would be a safe way to do it. It would be very cool to have a custom background.

Basically all a vivarium is, is an aqaurium with no water in it, a screen top, and things to accomodate a different animal.

well yeah..i know i can get the background from the stores..but i really like the foam ones...it gives you a 3D feel ,you know? it looks much better and real than just using regular background paper

you are using eco-earth? how s that going for you? i am using aspen.just don't really like it cause it doesnt' look natural at all. do you spot clean it? or ...what is the mainance? thz

its great couldn't of ask for a better product its easy to spot clean...doesn't have a pine smell to it and it makes it look more natural and he loves to burrow it in but the once monthly clean is easy also jus dump it and replace it. hope i helped:)

I personally feel that there at to many issues with Eco Earth.
I for one do not like just to spot clean my tanks, they are done every week and spayed and wiped out with a bleach water mix. Eco earth is to costly for that. I use either aspen or newspaper. My aspen is about $4 a huge bag at a co-op farm supply store.

Now having the eco earth and say a foam background would have its disadvantages if you have parasites, such as mites. This would make cleaning impossible and a great breeding place for mites. It would make getting rid of them a bigger pain than it already is.

Here's a link to a step by step way to do just as you have asked. The process involves great stuff expandable foam, silicone, and dirt (presumably eco earth). This example is probably much more extreme than what you're looking for, but maybe it'll give you a bit of inspiration.

I've been doing a lot of research of poision dart frogs over the past few years (okay, mostly just a lot of looking at people's vivs), and I've been thinking about how much my snakes would love an enclosure like the type that are made for poision darts. I hope to one day have a budget which will allow me a few display tanks!

If you do something like this, let us know how it turns out!

I have one from petco thats for hermit crabs and my corn loves it and he hasn't had any problems but I don't think it's foam. It's T-REX
