bad shed...help

I just found my snake has shed. It looks like she has some pieces stick to her and when her body is curved, her scales seem to jaggedly stick out. She seems so vulnerable right now. I don't really know how to help her. I just put her in a lukewarm shallow bath in a plastic container. What else can I do?

Can I still feed her while she is in this state?

Look at the sticky at the top of this forum. Soak her in room temp water, in a small container, with a rough washcloth on the bottom. Set a timer for 20 minutes. Then check her.

Another question

She was able to shed the rest of her skin in the water, but I don't know about her eye caps. Her head looks normal etc.

Another concern I have is that she has a small black mark about an inch from her head, upon further inspection it looks like there is something black stuck under her scale there. Have you ever seen this before?

Mites?? Do a full check of her body, especially under her 'chin', mites like to hide between the scales there (there's a pretty big groove, you will need to gently separate the scales to get a good look), and in her eyes.

Oh boy. I hope thats not it.
Did you see any black specks in the water dish, or the water you were just soaking her in? Think fine grains, like pepper.

If the rest of the stuck shed came off ok, and her head looks normal (did you check the tip of her tail?) its probably ok. Keep an eye on her if your really worried, but really, it sounds like you got it.
Any chance of a pic of the black speck?

She is just so small that it is hard to get a good look at her. She is only 12g in weight. It is hard to get pictures too because of her small size.

Thats small! They're so cute when they're that size. Any more black specks? Has the one on her neck changed any?
If you think it might be mites, I'd suggest moving her on to white paper towel. It will make mites easier to see if thats whats going on.

I had the shedding problem with my two - although at first claudia shed perfectly this time she didnt - until I drenched the viv to increase the humidity and she shed perfectly after that ... :)

Oddly enough she started shedding while sitting on my hand - gaping her mouth, snuffling, and trying to ram her head right through the bones of my fingers until she got the skin off her nose - was cute...

I am due a delivery of a hide so that will be used as a shedding hide when either of them go into blue.

It might be worth looking around the water bowl and in it for evidence of mites - its also likely that the snake will curl up in the water alot - because that seems to reduce the itching/irritation that the mites cause
