Derp snake says hi.
Well, as posted in my earlier thread, I have been doing very in-depth research on boas. I had the exact one I was going to get all picked out and my parents said no because they thought it was going to be an impulse buy that I would regret in a few weeks... I don't think they realize how long I've been researching this. :( My dad said he'd be open to rediscussion in 6 months but that feels so far away... *pout*

My dad also said if I really wanted a boa that badly I could get rid of Loki and get a boa instead.. but I couldn't bring myself to do that.

Bleh.

Thanks for listening guys. Just needed to do a grumpy immature rant.

That's awful. What a terrible thing, telling your kid they have to get rid of one pet in order to get another. That's not how to be a responsible pet owner. :( Sounds like they just don't understand that you've been doing your research. If you can't demonstrate your knowledge to them, well, 6 months isn't forever.

Just wait. It will ALL be worth it in the end. Boas are absolutely incredible, and you'll love the one you get when your patience pays off. :)

Patience is a virtue... and going bonkers with your animals as a young man is simply not the route to go.
If it'll mean enough to you, they will either come around at the end... or simply wait with it until you're old enough.

I didn't keep a single snake before I was 21.

I had to wait, too.

I wanted a snake when I was a kid. But my dad kept telling me to wait until high school, when I would like boys instead of snakes. So when I started high school, I assured him that I still liked snakes better than boys, and I eventually got my first (of many) snake(s). It was worth waiting for!

Since you have to wait 6 months, why not turn your research into a sort of report with lots of citations of relevant websites, books, and articles to support your findings? Present something impressive when the 6 months is up, and your parents will have to admit that it is more than a passing fancy. Be sure to search for old threads on CS in which members gave kids good reasons why herps are a constructive hobby for kids.

Good luck!

That's pretty bad to suggest you exchange one pet for another. Snakes are _not_ disposable pets. I hate to see them get flipped from one home to the next, for no good reason. Don't they think you're attached to your corn, that you love him, even? Just because he's a reptile doesn't mean you don't love him. Would they suggest the same thing with a dog or cat?

Can you buy all the furnishings for a boa, a little at a time, and have the viv all set up, and then just keep asking for the actual snake every six months?
