Bairds Ratsnake..how could people do this

Serpent2007

No snakes in ROI eh?
I was in college earlier today and got a call off a friend of mine in fota wildlife park where i work.He said he had a snake that they where asked to collect in a near by town and wanted me to identify it and take him in and look after him.I arrived and found a lovely young bairds ratsnake. They said he had been left on a pier the people who rang fota said that the snake had been attacked by birds that they shooed away.Glad to see that people will still report something like this rather then ignore it but it disgusts me to see that a person would leave the snake to die.I would like to thank the people who rang and the lads in fota for helping this poor guy.He is in my care now and hopefully will recover well pics are not nice and i want to show you the pain this poor guy had to endure thanks

Ow! I bet he'll be ok after a few sheds, though. Poor guy! What a beautiful snake! Dumb people probably thought they were just returning him to the wild...

What a pretty guy! Glad he is in the hands of someone that can appreciate him and give him proper care!

He's gorgeous! Of course, I adore Baird's ratsnakes. He'll heal up nicely, I'm sure. You and he (or she) are very lucky to have been brought together. Keep us posted on his/her healing progression.

He's lucky it was just the tail huh? Think he was offering it to keep them from more vital parts, or is that how the birds want to attack in case he's a poisonous snake?

He is pretty!

You did not just say "poisonous"! :laugh01:

I think birds do attack the tail in hopes of picking them up off the ground. It is safer in case the snake in question is venomous. >snicker<

Nice story :) Just be sure to keep those wounds clean and to keep him in quarantine as hes been outside and could have picked up anything - especially from nicks by wild birds.

Keep us well posted on his recovery :)
