Bathing/pooping/eating questions

Sandra

corn neophyte
Well I read through a bunch of old posts about bathing, and it looks like many of you believe that bathing corns is not a good idea - or at least not neccessary. I'd be interested in hearing more opinions on this. I planned to give my yearling a bath tonight as it's been 6 days since she ate her fuzzy and still hasn't pooped. Her viv temps are perfect, but if the stress of a new environment might be constipating her, I certainly don't want to stress her more by putting her in a bath. Should I go ahead and feed her tomorrow night even if she hasn't pooped?

Thanks so much, everyone (in advance). This forum is a tremendously helpful resource and I really appreciate the advice you have given me!

I would definitely go ahead and offer food. MANY MANY times I've had my corns poop either a)while in their feeding boxes or b)as soon as I put them back in their Viv after feeding.

I don't know, maybe putting new food in their belly stimulates the rest of their digestive systems to get moving?

Yes, go ahead and feed her. Six, seven days is no great deal of time inbetween bowel movements. Don't wait for your snake to defecate to determine when or if she gets fed. Set yourself a schedule to fed your corn every 5,6 or 7 days. Whatever time length that you think is good for your corn. You should stick to a consistent feeding schedule unless interupted by a shed cycle. The more consistent your feeding schedule is, the more consistent bowel movements will be.

If you happen to go through a few feedings and are sure that there has not been a bowel movement, then it would be a good idea to put your snake in a shallow container, fill the container with warm water so that it just covers your animals back. Place a lid back on and then place the container on the warm side of your enclosure. Leave your corn there for twenty to thirty minutes. If your snake has any fecal matter in it at all, it will come out shortly.
