Bearded Dragons

I know almost everyone on this forum has multiple animals so I think I will try posting this question here. I trust peoples opinion on this site because almost all of you keep great care of your animals. I am looking to get 2 or 3 bearded dragons. I am very interested in the lime greens and the bright intense orange colors. I am looking for a quality breeder to get these from. A few years ago I made the stupid mistake of buying a couple bearded dragons from a pet store. They were very small and kept on the lizard litter (like sand but the granules were much bigger) which I knew was wrong, but I bought them anyway. They seemed to eat fine and were active but the never eliminated waste. After a month or so they were gone. I am pretty sure they were impacted and that is why I would like to find a breeder because I will never buy from a petstore like that again. Thanks in advance!

I don't know where you are in MI, but I got my baby beardie from the All Animal Expo in Wheaton, IL (just outside Chicago) -- allanimalexpo.com -- which I attend just about every other weekend to buy crickets for her. I don't know if there are any reptile shows or expos around you, but that might be the best way to go so that you can speak directly with the breeder and ask as many questions as you wish. :) You can also then see different breeders all in the same room and possibly talk with other people milling about to see what their opinions might be on certain breeders, if you're not sure.

Another idea might be to check out your local herpetological society; often they have animals available for adoption for varying reasons.

Or, I guess that you could always purchase an animal from a breeder and have it shipped to you. I would think that that's a much more expensive option, but I'm sure that it was expensive enough to buy your previous beardies, only to have them die so soon.

Those are just some ideas! :) Good luck!

There is a reptile show held the second Saturday of the month which is only about 10 minutes from where I live. I am going to check it out either in February or March I was just wondering if anyone has had any good experiences with certain breeders. Thanks

Oh, sorry for the back-to-back posts, but I just thought to add that perhaps next time, if your beardie is eating daily and not pooping daily, then it's time to take him/her to a herp vet, asap. My Jolie will occasionally wait a day to poop, but if usually, like clockwork at 6:30 am -- I get my daily poop, ever since she was 4 weeks old when I got her (and wow, as she's gotten bigger, so has the poop! WOW! :sidestep: ).

Yeah I realize that now. That was probably like 6 years ago and was the first reptile I ever had. I did the research before purchasing but I did not do any research on excrement LOL. Thanks for the help!

Like most other reptile breeders, beardies are just at the beginning of breeding right around now....but the BEST lime green/"citrus" dragons I've seen were from Fire and Ice Dragons. That's Goliath, their male citrus breeder, that you always see in the ads in Reptiles Magazine.

My $0.02.
