beat THESE prices

Hi. I live in Dawson Creek, British Columbia. The local petstore- the ONLY one- charges 200 bucks for a neonate normal corn. Breeder unknown. Unsexed, feeding schedule uncertain (eats sometimes, not always). Baby rosies are 250. Balls are 300. All unsexed with questionable feeding. Pinkies are 2.75 EACH.
Holy moly!!!!
Is it MORE expensive wherever YOU live?

Thankfully no!

I always thought the UK was bad as well! I've seen hatchling normals with little or no history on sale over here for maybe £40GBP (about $70USD), which I thought was pretty steep.

Not even in the same league as your place though! :sidestep:

OOO, Maybe it's time for Carol to move to B.C.

Lol! Don't forget the 14 percent tax, too. That's $228 for a normal corn. And about $15 a month to feed it through them at nearly $3 a pinky! IF you are that stupid to buy from there, and I write this cause they sell a LOT of reptiles here in town- due to ignorance. They don't sell aspen either- "snakes shouldn't be kept on aspen" was the quote from the manager- it will cause impaction. Buy our "superbark". It costs only 3 times the price of aspen lol. Further it was strongly advised that I NEVER feed f/t, ONLY live. Well, I GUESS, at THAT price, it's GREAT for business, isn't it? Charlatans!

The normal price for "regular morph" sexed, eating happily corns here in northern bc, (from a respectable breeder, and we have many) is about $55-65, depending on colour and pattern of course. Likewise, f/t pinkies, bought in 100 lot bags, is about 40 bucks, taxed. And shipping is of course, extra.

From BOTH these sources, you receive not only great animals and product, but HUGE and knowledgable support. Just thought I'd clarify :)

Sounds kinda like here, $120 for a 2 month old normal that was labeled as a 'black cornsnake' though, they did have an idea when it was last feed and last shed, they didn't keep a record though. F/T pinkies are $2 each, and I've had a tough time finding even one that was in good enough condition that I would be willing to feed it to my snake. (I bought that $120 snake) their pinkies are either a very dark red and wrinkled like little raisins, or grey with white spots all over them. I ended up having to take one that was a bit bigger than I would have liked, because it was the only one even worth considering.(http://www.cornsnakes.com/forums/showthread.php?p=211307#post211307) Still, not quite as bad as yours.

I recently paid £45 for a normal and £65 for an anery-they both had feeding records, but that was all.
I should have looked more into getting from a breeder, but impatience got in the way, and we had to have these guys when we saw them(Kids are 10 and 12!-patience not one of their strong points)

Where in Scotland are you? Do you breed? :wavey:

LOL ... no kids myself but my snakes have had a few! ;)

I'm over in Dunfermline and I had more hatchlings than I knew what to do with earlier this year! Shame you weren't about then ... I had normals and amels (no anerys) at 1/4 of those prices. With full records and known parentage as well.

Not planning nearly so many babies next year .... probably just the one clutch which should produce 50% normals and 50% anery.

:)

We hadn't planned on a normal and anery-the boys wanted different coloured snakes so they knew which was which, and the shop happened to have normal and anerys so thats what we got!
I know (now) they were kind of expensive, but the guy in the shop seemed to know what he was talking about, and let the boys handle a few of the snakes to see which ones they were happier with. He gave mainly good advice too-only dodgy info being that it was ok to keep them together in 1 tank.
We did it for a couple of weeks till I discovered this forum and the cannibal pics! They are now in separate tanks!!

Fair enough. A lot of places will advice on more than one in a tank .... it's not an uncommon piece of advice from pet shops. Well, after all, if you can keep two in a tank then they can sell you two can't they!

If they told you you'd need two tanks, chances are you'd just buy one.

Anyway, just curious, where did you get them from? A place near Wishaw took ten of my hatchlings off me this summer you see so you never know, you may have one of mine after all! (It'd be the normal ....)

I got them from the Olympia pet and reptile centre in East Kilbride.
I'm in Renfrewshire and it was a 45 mile round trip to get them, but it was the best looking/cleanest pet shop we found.
Wishaw would have added another 15 or so miles onto my round trip.
I now get my pinkies from a petshop in Clydebank-45 miles just to get pinkies was a bit much! :)

I wish I could edit!

Do you know any good places to get vivs made?
I'm looking for a stack of 2. Want to get 4 foot long x 2 foot wide x 2 foot high, but they need to stack to save on floor space.
Found a place in Lancashire-Bury I think- that can do one like that for £125 which sounds good, but it's £60 for delivery. If I could find somewhere in central Scotland then I could collect.
They are 5 months old just now, so there is no rush to get the big vivs yet. I feel it's pointless to get a 2 foot, then a 3 foot etc, so when they grow out their tanks they are in now they will go into their big vivs.

Rintouls in Bathgate can order those vivs. Hobbyist ones. I have two in walnut. Very nice they are too. :)

Their prices are pretty reasonable. Slightly more expensive than on the 'net but not by a lot. They're reasonably local for me so I was happy to pay a little bit more. Bit more of a trek for you.

This site lists a few places under 'Stockists' in Scotland. They di a 55" one for £95 odd and the delivery looks like it should be less than £60.

I'm sure a spot of google-ing would turn up a few more places. :)
