Bedding vs Carpets

Love and Hisses
I recently switched from Repti-bark bedding to a cage carpet. The Rept-bark dust was pretty difficult to clean out of my aquarium and the cage carpets are really easy to clean.

I also added an additional hidey place (a paper towel roll) that my corn seems to like better than any of his previous storebought ones.

My question though, is whether or not he's going to miss the substrate. He really liked to burrow and bury himself in that stuff and I'd hate to take that away from him if that's what makes him feel secure.

Do you think he really cares? Should I find a different substrate?

Just curious,

You might give shredded aspen a try. It's not nearly dusty if at all. They can still tunnel under and inside of it. It's cheap and very easy to spot clean.

Carpets are easier to clean but they get ole and rugged off very early than compared to bedding. Also wooly carpets are tough to clean.

He can just burrow under the carpet. The issues with carpet are you have to have two or three pieces so you can launder one and then leave it out in the sun to bake and dry and kill all the germs. Then, it's hard to dig the snake out from under it without removing all his stuff.

CareFresh is okay for babies, but it smells weird, almost like regurge to me. Then, if it gets in the water bowl, it sucks up all the water.

CareFresh Crinkles leach water out of the water bowl, dye the water and the snake, and pretty much suck. But they are okay for shipping.

I like aspen, or paper towels for babies.

I have to cast my vote for aspen. It's cheap, clean, not dusty, and I actually live the smell, though it doesn't smell strong at all. It's great for burrowing too.

I personally like the carpet because the aspen make me cough and sneeze and my ball python was coughing with it, too.

Lol, one point to RuthDavis for resurrecting a dead post, and one point to aspen for being the best bedding! Newspaper/papertowel gets my second vote. :)
