Beginning Shed?

Hi all!

I took Cyrus out today for some lovin' and I noticed he looked kinda dull. Do they start to dull before they go into blue?

He has already had one shed for me....it was in pieces so I want to make sure that I get the humidity up for him if he is starting. Should I start to mist now, or wait until he is in blue?

Also, he shed for me about 3 weeks ago. Does this seem too soon for another shed? When he shed last time he was 8-9 grams. I weighed him today and he was 13 grams.

Thanks for your help in advance!

Babies shed about every 30 days. You can tell for sure if you start not seeing him out when before, he used to be. I would either make a moist hide for him- make a little plastic container with a door cut out, with sphagnum moss inside, damp, not wet, or mist his viv, lightly, every couple days, and cover the top loosely with plastic wrap.

Young corns can shed quite frequently because they are growing fast.

They will get dull before shedding - a few days later they will turn milkly blue - a few days later they will clear - then a couple days after that they will shed :)

One way to insure a good shed is to use a humid hide. Take a tupperware container, cut a hole in the top and put either some moist paper towels or moss inside. Place this in the tank - your snake will sit in it and be exposed to higher humidity which helps the skin come off in one peice. I use humid hides with all my snakes and always have complete sheds :)

Do I have to use Sphagnum....I have heard others using shreaded papertowels, or do you reommend just getting shagnum? So in your opinion is he starting the shedding process and he just hasn't gone into blue yet or am I being hyper senstive to him? He shed before Halloween. I don't remember the exact date, but it was before haloween for sure!

I wastoldto have his tank at around 70-75 humidity during shed......should I mist to keep the viv at those levels or is the humid hide enough?

I tried to use paper towels, and my snakes hated it. You can find sphagnum moss at Lowes or Home Depot in the orchid section of the garden center.

Yes, I think it is likely your snake is preparing to shed.

OK.....so I just got back from Lowes. I bought the largest bag of Sphagnum I have ever seen. It was all they had....should last Cyrus the rest of his life as well as all his future lives!!!

Anyway, he is already nestles in his humidity hide. He seems to like it for now! My question is this: Do I need to dampen the moss everyday? Do I need to replace the moss everyday or can I use it for his whole shed?
