Benefit of misting when shedding

Hi, just thought I would share our recent advntures. Our 2 1/2 yr old corn was ready to shed but our mister broke, the new one we bought wouldn't work. As a result she went a few days in blue without the humidity being raised in her viv. She actually shed on the morning we were going on holiday for a few days (to Amsterdam - very nice!) Unfortunately, she still had her eyecaps and a small amount of skin left on her head. We were pretty confident that she would get it off on her own while we were away.

However, when we returned 3 days later the skin was still on. At 1 am we were running her through towels etc, trying to get this skin off. Didn't seem to be working, so decided to leave her until morning and then ring our breeder for advice. I put her round my neck and did some unpacking while she rummaged around in my jumper and down my back. Next thing I know, she pops her head out and sure enough she had managed to get both eyecaps and all the skin off.

Interesting that she could not get the skin off in her hide but managed when rubbing between my jumper and skin. Happy ending all round.

Moral of this story, don't have faulty misters aroung shedding time!!!!!!!

P.S. Last night she ate an enormous mouse, took her about ten minutes to down this thing, she was sat for about 5 mins with two feet sticking out either side of her head!! Very strange site!!

Amazing creatures aren't they!

Mister ? Whats a mister
Does it increase humidity ?
Also the snake in your avatar looks like mine (see avatar) what type is it.
Thanks

To me, the moral of the story is: don't keep your viv so dry that the snake can't shed properly without misting.

Point taken Roy, she does have a moist hide in her viv and spends a bit of time in there. We have always increased the humidity a little around shedding time and just seems to makes that bit of difference. Normally get perfect sheds.

Carlo, a mister is just a plastic spray bottle, yes we use it to increase the humidity. Far as I know she is a normal, quite a lot bigger now but just as pretty!

Cheers :)
