Best cages for multi setup.

Krazy About Snakes
I have gotten the bug. I have my first snake in a 20L aquarium pretty nicely set up to be the best vivarium I can give her. I want to get some more snakes, keep them as pets, and breed in the next year or so.

I just can't keep them all in the plastic containers that so many seem to use. To me that seems like a laboratory type setup and I want them all to have the life of a pet, not just a breed animal. Not that there is anything inherently wrong with that, it's just not for my pets. My question is this: is there a way to stack multiple aquariums without building large wooden cages or racks, or what stacking cages would be well built and the size I need to keep each snake in?

I have actually been really lucky and found two matching dark wood bookcases that will hold tanks, one vertical and one horizontal. The vertical will hold four 10 gallon tanks and the horizontal will hold three 35 gallons. They are very decorative as well. I am currently using them as bookshelves/tank displays because I don't have that many tanks (YET :grin01: ). The downside is that with some of the them I'd have to take the tank out and off of the shelf when I want to take the snake out or clean it. Not too big of a deal but definitely a minor pain. Other than finding some type of pre-made shelf, I think that you will be building your own. How many tanks are you trying to house???

I bought a metal rack from Home Depot. I think you can get these also at Linens n things and Bed Bath and Beyond. I have visionariums so I dont have to remove the cages, but it can be used for 20L aquariums as well. I am not sure if the rack I have currently will fit a 30L, but I want a bigger rack for those as the time comes. You can fit 4 aquariums on each rack.

Sweet set up! I may go with something like that. Yeah the visonariums are twice the price of a regular 20L with top, but I'm thinking that not having to take them down to clean them would be worth the price. Of course if you can afford more, my favorite set ups are the cages that some of the rack distributers make. I will find a couple of links and post them.

Stacking wooden ones are what I use.

Not the cheapest I suppose but if you want the display to look nice .....

well depending on what your looking to spend you could build your own rack that would house 8 20L the cost would be under a hundred bucks and you could give it the look and setup that you want.

hey I have also purchased that shelf from home depot ;) LOL its seems very sturdy. its good for now, but *sigh* my collection is going to be expanding so I will need to sort something out!
If I have to build a rack system, there are some nice clear plastic containers that you could set you to look really nice! which wouldnt make it look as labratory as a traditional rack system

Here is a picture of the set up my friend has for his "display" breeder tanks. This is only a small part of his collection as the big tanks really do use a lot of space...

The six large tanks are breeder 55 gallons. The are approx 36" x 22" x 16". On the right there are a bunch of 10 gallons up top.

Pardon me that was 8 large tanks... lol

Here is a bit more of his collection... He is working on getting racks done, and setting up a second snake room.

I have my Green tree pythons in vision cages. They make them for non-arboreal animals. A little more expensive for certain than an aquarium, but all are completely stackable and have nice sliding doors.
