Bigger viv problems?

I have a 4 month old hatchling in a smallish tank (cant remember the exact size, will post it later).

Anyway I really want to move him to a custom build viv that I have for him but am worried that it will be to big.

What size it to big and what could be the bad effects of moving him into something to big?:shrugs:

Cheers guys.

I dont think theres any such thing as a viv thats too big,

I mean they used to live in the wild?

Could be wrong!

As long as you provide plenty places to hide, a large viv will be fine.

It's large, exposed, spaces they're not so keen on .....

I read that they are comfortable in a 20 gallon tank. My brother in law is making me a tank with the following dimensions.. 120cm lenght, 70cm width, 70 cm depth. If I'm correct, that comes out to 155 gallons! Isn't that too big?!

Sounds like about twice the size you need to keep an adult comfortable, but it shouldn't hurt them. It's better large than small, at least when they get bigger. As Colin mentioned, if the snake is small, offer a lot more hides than you think. I added silk plants and all the snakes love to lay in the foliage. Deep substrate that they can burrow under and hide in helps too.

Sounds good to me. I'm not sure if there's something as too big. Yes you can house an adult in a 20 gallon, but that is the minimum! The bigger the better. You'll have one happy snake with all that room!! Just make sure that you give her plenty of hides.

I have a 15" by 36" by 15" high plastic rubbermaid, and my snakes LOVE it. They're individually housed. They are FAR more active, and wander regularly. They seem to ADORE the height, stretching up to reach the top often. I think this is a good thing for them. I like to feel that they are exercising more, but I may be totally wrong. I'm a newbie.

if they are an adult in a 20gal long, is it better for them to take them out mor frequently and let them get "exercise"? I take my Bullit out whenever i see him roaming his tank and i let him "play" in the living room, he likes to crawl on the coffee table.

I'm not so sure I'd call it "needing exercise," but taking them out and handling them never hurt anyone. Plus it does give the snake an opportunity to fully stretch out if she wishes to.

:-offtopic em, is it possible to house two corns together? I know they're solitary animals, but would they mind or just ignore each other?

Search the forums and you will find this has been discussed plenty of times. It seems to be a matter of personal opinion. Some say it's ok, others say NEVER!!!!. I wouldn't do it myself. But read some of the other threads on this topic and you can make up your own mind.

alright, thanks a lot for your help guys!! =]
by the 22nd I should have my viv, and then I just have to wait for the snake
I ordered to come! I'm uber-excited! hehe

Welcome to the board.

As for your question of housing corns together, you find plenty of info on this board you could spend hours reading.

Good luck with your new snake. Is this going to be your first one?
be sure and post pics when u can.

yeah, it will be my first one.. Unfortunately here (Cyprus) they're really expensive because no one buys them.. It's gonna cost me around 100 pounds, which I think is just over 200 dollars. But I'm desperate for one!
Which name do you think is better? Ariadne, Circe, Ambrosia..?
