Biting

We just got a corn snake and it keeps biting when trying to hold it. Is there something we can do to clam it down? We just got it last week, it is 2 years old and about 2 ft long.

It may not be settled in yet. Leave it alone for a week, the. Feed it and wait 2 days. After that try holding it.

Also make sure your temps are correct. Too high of temps can cause aggressiveness in snakes.

Let it settle for a week, feed, I'd wait three days, then start gentle handling sessions daily. I'd keep the snake out long enough that it learns that you aren't going to harm it. 15-30 minutes or so. Or sit down and watch an hour of TV with the snake. I've only had two snakes, ever, who were bitey by nature and not ever going to change, out of hundreds.

Okay thank you! At the moment my daughter is scared of it, but she catches garden snakes. So this info is very helpful to let her know that in a few days.

Has he bit her yet? It's very startling, and annoying, but not painful. Just a pin prick. If he does get her, make a big deal about being a Bite Club member, and take pics of the injury, and the culprit, and post them here- we LOVE new Bite Club members!!! It's something she can be proud of, so hopefully not resentful about.

Oh yes it has bit her several times that she is scared. I will have to show her this so she can see. Will take a pic if it bites her again.

Make her a prize ribbon with "Bite Club Member" on it, the date and pin it on her. She will laugh years down the road remembering that day!

First rule of bite club: always talk about bite club

Second rule of bite club: post as many pictures as you can while you talk about bite club

Lol

Bonus points if you can snap a pic of it in the act!
