Bleeding from mouth

spud

Need more Corns
Hello

Just fed my snake around an hour ago. She had a bit of a struggle finding the best way to eat the fuzzy and as she was moving it around, i noticed some blood on the outside of the mouse, which must have came from her mouth. I was just wondering if you guys had any idea what it is? Up until now she has had no problems, no ill health etc. But this has got me worried. I have done a search on this forum and it seems somebody else had this and they went to the vets and they diagnosed early stage of mouth rot.

I am going to make an appointment to see the vet but as i have just fed her i will probably make it for thursday/friday. Is there anyone who has had something similar. Will it heal on its own?

This has only happened during this feeding, no grazes or scraps before today so this is something new

If anybody can help that would be great.

Thanks Spud

The blood more than likely came from the mouse, not your snake. When CO2 is used to euthanize mice, it can cause them to bleed from the mouth/nose area. I find many of my frozen mice bleed a little once they've thawed out. Unless your snake is actively bleeding from the mouth, I wouldn't be too worried.

Thanks for the reply. Calmed me down a little lol. The point you made about continuous bleeding from the mouth makes me think your right as i didn't see any more blood coming from her mouth after she had eaten the fuzzy and i left her in the container for 15-20 min after she had finished just to make sure there was no more blood

I concur with Dionycthus. I've had f/t mice bleed occasionally, too. This seems to happen more often with the bigger mice. If your snake was acting normally before and seems okay now, I wouldn't worry. I'd check on her while she's tucked away digesting her meal and make sure that the bleeding hasn't continued. It's fine to check on her gently; just don't handle her much.

More than likely it was just blood from the mouse, though. Let us know how things go.

I see FT mice with blood coming out of the mouth or nose all the time! It's usually only apparent after thawing.
