Blood left behind after mating

I have been breeding nine different females with six different males this year....right now in the middle of it....and out of the about 20 hookups there have been 3 instances of blood left behind. Twice with one female and once with another female.
I’ve seen this before over the years but I am not sure what causes it and if it is coming from the male or the female after they separate.
Anyone have anything they know on this and how often it has been seen with other collections,

Yeah, it happens. It is worrisome when you see it, but best I can recall there was never any lasting injury that I could tell.

I guess sometimes they just play too rough, or get themselves in awkward positions that are, well, stressful to the related tissues.
 
Thanks Rich. After posting this thread last night I realized I could look in the archives. There was a old post that someone believed the blood was coming from the male after a female suddenly pulled or twisted away and tearing the males tender tissue.
That’s gotta hurt!
I figure to rest them from more breeding. I know one hook up does the trick but I always like to pair them up 3 times to help ensure fertilization.
