Boas?

Charlotte

Derp snake says hi.
OK, so I would LOVE to add a boa to my "collection". But I really don't know anything about them. I'm obviously not going to go out and buy one tomorrow, but what can you guys tell me about their feeding requirements/care requirements/good places to buy one, etc?

Thanks! That was an interesting read. :) I am looking more specifically at the Hogg Island Boas because of their smaller size - do you have any experience with them?

That's a really good read for beginners like myself. Thanks for that! I actually just got my first boa a week ago, and I held him for the first time yesterday. I love the way he looks in the sun.
You're making a really good choice in getting a boa. I got mine off craigslist (I know, there are some bad people on there, but I made sure he was healthy and the previous owners were really nice). I love love love him. I would get a younger one if you can, so you're sure it isn't cage aggressive or anything like that.

If smaller Boas are your cup of tea, I'd try and look into the following:
Nicaragua(small, very affordable and good looking morphs), Hog Isle(beware of Hogg Isle registries... some use this "different" term for a cross... not that there's anything wrong with a cross, but know what you're getting), El Salvador, Caulker's Cay, Panama, Costa Rica, Corn Isle....

Hog Isle are good looking fellas... I suggest looking into the dwarf localities, and then find a reputable breeder.

I bought my Hog Island from RioBravo Reptiles. He has top of the line localities. I am very happy with my Hog Island. He is calm and friendly.
cuttingedgeherp.com is also a reputable breeder.
My choice was between a Nicaraguan and Hog Island. I choose Hog Island, because of their natural light colored look. It all depends on what your looking for.

We got our Hog Islands from RioBravo as well. He definitely does have top of the line localities. they've got that great boa personality just like the bigger ones. I did alot of research into breeders when I was looking for them, as Kokopelli said alot of people try to pass off crosses as pure Hog Islands. The main problem with the crosses is that there is no guarantee what size they will be.
