Breathing puffs???

New to the corn snakes for 4 days now and I have been reading up on the on the noises they do and or breathing sounds they make when and if they are sick but its all a little confusing to me and very hard to tell or diagnose.

Any way here is my concern.

I have a male corn 3 years old looks ok in shape no defects in skin he was well fed and looks to be well nourished.

I don't hear and sounds when its sleeping but when I open the viv and pick him up he will make a sort of puffing sound with his mouth closed. He dosen't try to strike or take any defensive positions he just puffs.

As far as I can tell he only makes it when we are around.

I hope its just a behavior thing and something not too serious.

Thanks for the info

Sounds to me like your guy is telling you he's startled. Corn snakes don't actually make what I'd call a hiss, but they do make a puffing noise sometimes if startled or on the defensive. It seems to me that's what you're hearing. He's just letting you know that you woke him up!

Hmmm, interesting. i have a little cremsicle hatchling who does the same thing, only his puffs are more like clicks. He opens his mouth a little when he does that. He eats well, moves well and his skin is healthy, so I don't think he's sick, just startled maybe...

Martin-Bernstein my Whiskey makes a pop noise sometimes after he drinks.. I have listened to him on diff occasions and hear nothing but sometimes ( not always ) he makes it after he drinks..
