Breeding males to how many females?

I have one male who deals with three females. Fertility seems fine so far, but I might be pushing my luck.

It depends upon how many matings per female, the length of time between matings and his actual fertility. As long as you give him a chance to produce more sperm between matings and he isn't a complete dud, you can easily breed 4-6 females in one season, if not more if you count second clutches.

How much time between breedings? I have used one male this year with two females and the same will occur this year. But next year, I realized that he carries anery and I have more females for him knowing more about his genetics now.

This season my male covered 5 females with witnessed hookups 3 times with each female. I put them together and after a witnessed hookup will give the male 2 days break and put them together again. I then give 1 weeks break and start with the next female and repeat the cycle.
The only problem is that using this method takes 2 months to cover all 5 females.

Ciao

I usually breed females every other day with preferably 3 confirmed matings, but have been known to settle for 2 if you have 2 females ready at exactly the same time. The male gets at least 3 days between females guaranteed, but then again, it all depends on when the females are ready. Sometimes, it pays to stagger when you bring your females up from brumation as well as having a back-up pairing planned, just in case.

Thanks again everyone. It seems more time than I thought between females, but I guess staggering the females out of brumation would cover that pretty well
