so this sounds retarted but if i buy a male and a female mouse and keep them together will they make babies lol? Is it like gaurenteed to happen or sometimes they dont?

i agree with above i have had my mice for 4 months now and the only litter i have had is from when i brought them. But they are looking plump now who knows?

It really depends on the mice, i have a trio that i have for 6 months and i got nothing, now i got another trio and well. about 50 days later i got my first litter of 19 scince then i have been getting a litter from each mom every month from 19 to 23.

I found the white lab rats from Animal House breed abnormaly fast, but the fancy rats I bought from some home breeders took a long time to deliver.

The breeder that supplies the local pet shops in my area is actually feeding his stock something that causes them to be sterile. Job security, I guess. Make sure to keep your mice fed and waterd or they will eat each others brains.

OK. I don't think that was called for. Mice will only eat ech other if theres not enough Protien in their diets, or if the dominent mouse is cannabilized. Its rare for mice to eat each other period. I think we should be encouraging folks that breeding turns out well most times. Not that they will eat each other if not fed. Sure if you don't feed you mice in a week or so. Mice would rather die from starvation and dehydration then eat another one if sex is on their minds.

my mice are constantly killing one another why is this ? i feed them rodentpro blocks. i hate breeding mice but i need them and they take up less space than rats though i do breed both gail

You're probably not giving them with enough protien. sometimes, lighting, heating and humidity plays a roll in cannabalism.

Everything I have read suggests 19 to 21 days with an absolute max of 24 days.

I breed my own, I only recently started this, but as with everything I do I researched it fully first.

My first colony was one each male and female, purchased from the local pet store. The female had quite a litter, 8 I think, but chewed the fur off her back having them, then killed them. She died of her wounds, the male died shortly after, no apparent reason.

My current colony started as three females and a male purchased from a local breeder who also belongs to the herp club here. I had them in a small 5 1/2 gallon aquarium with a screen top. I am on my third litter, they started right away. I expect more to come along in a couple weeks. For that reason and the fact my kids wanted a couple of the babies as pets I moved my colony to a ten gallon tank and gave them two weanling males (The only two remaining from that litter, the other two are in the freezer awaiting meal time for sneaky) and the old tank.
