Breeding pair

I was fortunate that it only took about 20 mins for them to get down to business. I've seen other threads from breeders that they leave them for a few days. I think it depends on the readiness of your snakes.

Well, I've had 3 pairs together for 2 weeks, 1 pair has mated 4 times and the other 2 pairs are yet to consumate their relationship ;) !!

But what if both animals are still willing to feed, and eating on a weekly schedule? Would it be beneficial to keep them seperated after each feed to minimize stress on the animal...until the first poop at least?

That's what I do. If they mate... great. But if not, I separate them, feed them, and introduce them again after they defecate. I just repeat this until they breed.

I tried to house one female with the male last year but she was so freaked out that I couldn't do that. She was actually trying so hard to get away that I decided it wasn't healthy for her because I was worried she would eventually hurt herself by running into the sides of the cage over and over again.

It seems to me (although there is no way to verify this) that removing the female and later reintroducing can often spark mating behavior when it doesn't seem to occur when they are simply left together. I usually leave them together overnight even when copulation is instant and seldom for longer than 24 hours, whether or not there breeding seems to have occured.

Out here, I don't get to brumate since the temps don't get low enough. I do change the light cycles to match sunrise and sunset though to give them a little bit of season change. Around the beginning of march (depending on the female) I put both the male and female into a 55 gallon tank and lave them together for about a month or so. By that time, I can tell if they've mated by or if the female is gravid. It works fine for all of my pairs. The only problem I have is the females. Some of them are very different from others, and it can be very hard to second guess when they are ready without brumation to tip them off. I try to get to know my females' cycles as well as I can, and take notes every breeding season. For instance, I have 3 females that are ready to go right after they shed for the first time in march, I have another one that has to go through at least two sheds and is ready about april, another one that has to be introduced to a male, seperated, and reintroduced before she's ready to go...the list goes on. Its kind of a pain, but I try to stick with the same females, with the exceptions of adding a maiden female here and there. Females that are going through their first breeding season go through some "tests" just to see when they will be receptive etc etc. I pretty much never worry about my males...they are ready to go whenever. I keep my males in a seperate room than my females so when they see a girl, they all act like its for the first time in their life. :)

I do the same 24 hours
I keep them apart for a few days so he will miss his girlfriend, also I figured that would give him time to build up a good sperm supply I don't no if that is nessasary. I reintroduce them even If I see them mating, agian I don't know if thats nesasary, but it's not going to hurt. It's worked so far.
