Browsing through posts and I keep seeing some really interesting mice breeding strategies popping up. I'd love to know what everyones are, and how productive are they?
I use tubs(sterlites/rubbermaids) that are roughly 2 feet long, 18 inches wide and 6 inches high..I get them from walmart for about 8 bucks a peice.
I put 1 male and 5 females in each and feed a lab block made for breeding colonies from purina.
I average about 10-17 pinks from every female every 20-25 days. That is about 50-70 pinks per colony a month. I have about 15 colonies set up any any given time.
It is the most simple set up I can find and works great for me!
Here's a pic of some of the weanlings in the "grow up tubs"...
I'm really just getting started. I have a 1.4 in a 10gallon CritterCage, and I have a spare 10g CritterCage which I plan to use for a second 1.4 colony, using 4 female holdbacks and a male from a pet store. I also have a lot of tubs laying around so that as my snake collection grows, requiring more feeders, I can add colonies.
I forgot to add that for my fancy's that I want to know the parentage of I use these small tubs that I get at the dollar store for a buck 15!!!
It houses 1 male and 1-2 males just fine!

The small white bins are about 14X14... They house 2-3 mice very nicely! Not really big enough to breed a lot of mice in but they work great for a pair or so of fancies..
