breeding with a bigger male

cornscorpfrog

Corns are the best
I have got a female amel 7 yrs old 51-52" and want to buy a snow to breed with her next year. I know that it is better to have a smaller male then the female but I just found a nice male snow thats 4 yrs old but it's about 60" I want to get it but don't know if I will be able to successfully breed them next year.
please give me your views.

My male is almost ten inches longer than my female (they're the same age), and he bred her extremely successfully this year. She certainly didn't seem to mind, either. Males get bigger than females in the wild, so I'm sure it's not something that unusual.

Where did you read that having a smaller male is better? I've never seen that before.

From what I understand smaller males have an easier time manouvering than males that are much larger than the female. I have mine pretty evenly matched but next year I think I'll be putting a 12 month old male who will be around 120g with a 400+g female, so we'll see how that goes!

As long as your female is large enough for breeding, it won't matter if the male is larger than her.
I say go for it.

A 12 month old male? I've never heard of that before. First time young males usually have pretty poor fertilization records.
