No its not something you have to do. Most people use brumation for breeding and to catch a break from feeding so many snakes per year. If you have a pet corn you do not have to worry about brumation in most cases and he will be 100% fine without it.
I'm glad it doesn't hurt to keep my little guy up all year round...I don't think I could do it.
I can barely handle it when my bearded dragon goes into brumation :sniff: (She just does it on her own...could be 100 degrees and she will go into her cave and "shut the door" with sand)
Some snakes seem to insist on being brumated. They just stop eating this time of year and curl up and hide on the cool end of the viv. After about a month, they come back to activity. Must be that they are taking a holiday.
