BTS Custom Enclosure (WIP)

Hey all,

Well after speaking with the family, it looks like the next reptile pet is going to be our display pet for the living room area of my house. As such, my father and I are looking at creating a unique, custom made enclosure beginning this summer.

We will be doing a lot of research obviously, but plan to incorporate heating fixtures inside (both UV and Heat Bulb), ventilation (obviously), plexi-glass for viewing (ease of use to work with, yes I know it can get scratched up and isn't as high quality), sealant and stain, and more.

I want to take in suggestions from folks that have built custom as far as wood types they used for framing and exterior, door types (hinged, sliding/locking, tracks, etc.). Also, how they have built in their fixtures and such.

What do you all use for the bottom of the cage to make it easier for cleaning? I read in some places that people use stick on tiles, cut a piece of plastic, etc.

After it's said and done I plan on adding rock croppings, a ramp that leads to a canopy, possibly a little soaking lagoon built into the bedding.

My father and I have built a shed together, so once we have the parts, it should be easy enough. My dad is a handy man when it comes to this kind of stuff.

I plan to make sure all heating is functioning well and the cage has been ready to go (stable) for a couple weeks before I purchase around my bday in October. I will take pics during the process and DIY on my blog if anyone wants to be looking out for it. If you have pics of projects you've done, I wouldn't mind you sharing.

Open to feedback here.

I will document our build with pictures and step-by-step guides as we finish key parts of the project.

Timeline: Next weekend (July 5th) - Late September

Ahhh very nice. Love our BTS's just never would thought to call them a display animal because they are so personable.
Will look forward to seeing the progression of the enclosure. :)

Daddio, definitely going to be socialized amongst family and friends. I meant display animal in the sense it will be a focal point too. Mostly because most of my closest persons and relatives have a fear of snakes, so I can't have those enclosures in plain sight.

Can't wait to pick my northern up, but first, to get this enclosure done. I'm lucky because one of my buddies used to have beardies, so he is donating me all heat and lighting domes/fixtures, driftwood and water bowls for free. Going to help me keep costs down.
