Is there an actual lump or just the folds because she is so fat? I would feed her an adult mouse every 14 days...maybe even 21 days. Make sure she has plenty of room to move around, in a viv, and frequent handling sessions wouldn't hurt either. Good luck!

where the fold is in the snake. that is the actual bump. and it feels...... squishy i guess you could call it.
kinda worried. might end up taking her to the vet soon.

She appears to just be overweight in which case I would feed ever ever 14 days, but I can't exactly tell for sure. The lump your are feeling maybe a fat deposit but it could be something else also. Taking her into the vet for a check up wouldn't hurt just to have her checked out. If you do I would take a fecal sample in with you to check and make sure she doesn't have any parasites and all.

Good luck with her and congrats on your new addition.

thanks. we just added two snakes to the collection today. so now we have 6. i dont normally favor the orange ones but lately i have had a thing for them.
i think that i am going to take her to the vet next week when i get paid. its 50bucks for a checkup and everything. so we will see whats wrong.
thanks for all the input:dancer:

She looks overweight to me, too. I think that's what the lump is. Swimming and stair climbing should help!

I too would cut her feeds to 18-21 days apart and put her in an exercise regime.

Stair climbing, as Nanci said
Swimming, as Nanci said(just make sure to temp check and ensure the water is not over 85)
Tree climbing(weather permitting), just make sure she does not get out of your reach
Bannister(or something similar) climbing, supervise at all times to make sure she does not fall
Slithering sessions, out around your house over and through obstacles(I have a daycare so my snakes often use toys as climbers, just ensure the holes of things are not small enough she may get stuck)

Hope some of these additional ideas help as well.

Here is my horrible video! Photobucket really cut the quality. And it was SO windy that day. And Lila kept shooting away at top spped, and Cherry wouldn't move...

I really like the idea of getting the snake checked by the vet. and tons of holding(exercise). I would do a slow change in the diet(smaller mouse). I would slowly make the days longer between feeding.. 10 days, 14 days the next time, all the way out to 20-21 days. I hope the bump is just a fatty deposit and can be reduced by diet and exercise....

To be safe make sure to quartine the new snake (different room)and of course wash before and after handling ect....

Yes, yes, yes! Humphrey decided I was a tree climbing toy the other night and tried to go THRU my hoop earring quickly before I could prevent this. His/her head went thru OK but then s/he was stuck! Frantic disentangling resulted.

Similar to a story I heard about an Iraqi soldier who decided to kill a snake near his camp.... He held it down with the butt of his rifle.... The snake went through the trigger guard and blew the soldiers head off....
Snake 1
Iraqi soldier 0

I saw a patient a couple years ago who chopped a rattlesnake in half with a weed-whacker and then picked it up. You guessed it...Bitten by a zombie snake. Why can't people just leave things alone.

wow. what are the odds of that.
that completely sucks. guess they should be more careful with those half snakes. :shrugs:

My biggest snake, the one I had to help reduce her flabby stature and help to tone up, loves to hang out with me around my neck. Well one day she is hanging out and she goes into my shirt as usual, no biggie, but what I did not realize is there was a small tag for hanging the shirt(like the ones you find in a coat) and she tried to fit through it, the first 1/8 went through fine, then NO GO. Hubby had to carefully cut her free!!!

well the problem was that he cut it in half... he may have also imediatly picked it up while it was still alive and in excrusiating pain from being cut in half.

Sounds like an urban legend. I doubt even an Iraqi soldier would be dense enough to point his rifle at himself.

climbing structures too! Snakes do a lot of "foraging" around, every night when you're not looking. That can be tons of extra exercise time! Yours does look a little pudgy.

All my snakes have one (except my boa, he needs a wine-rack since he's so big). They're adjustable shelving squares, held together with zap-straps. My mouse delivery-lady said I have the most muscular corns she's ever seen, and she sees quite a few. I have never been so proud.

Cool idea, I really like that one, it allows for exercise when I am to busy to get them out every couple of days!

Sucks for the snake. The snake torturer got what he deserved.

Oooh! Off topic. Did you see that video on FaceBook of the guy that is fishing and catches a snook, but a bull shark comes and bites the fish. They fight the shark for a minute, then it's gone. They reel in the fish, only the fish is just a head with some guts hanging out. It still bit the guy when he was trying to take the hook out.

And did you ever read the Stephen King story, The Breathing Method? Awesome!!!!!
